Marvel's Spider-Man topped the PS4 download charts in September, and it's a more impressive feat than it appears on the surface.

In a world currently dominated by mobile gaming, battle royales, and playing everything online with strangers around the world, Spider-Man has come along and broken the mold. The PlayStation 4 exclusive has no mode where you can battle others online, in fact, it has no online mode whatsoever. It is simply a single player game with an in-depth story mode, just like the good old days.

For Marvel's Spider-Man to be as successful as it has been, you had better believe that pretty much everything about it is flawless. The graphics are breathtaking and the details are impeccable, but what really drives home how great of a game it is is that aforementioned story. Some have labeled the tale as one of the greatest Spider-Man has ever been involved with, movie, comic, game, or otherwise.

The game was released in September and unsurprisingly, Sony has revealed that it was the most downloaded game on PlayStation last month. Considering all the hype surrounding it, you would certainly hope so, but the time of year meant that Spidey had some stiff competition. Sports games such as FIFA, Madden, and NBA 2K all had new titles in store, and all featured in the top ten, but the web-slinger outsold them all.

What will be interesting to see is how popular Spider-Man remains as we head towards the festive season. It's highly likely that many more Marvel fans will purchase the game around Christmas time, but what about those of us who already own it? Since there is no online aspect to the game, once we play through the entire story and complete all of the side quests, what's left for us to do?

Well, Marvel and Insomniac have us covered there too. There will be three different new chapters released as part of a DLC package called The City That Never Sleeps. The first will be available on October 23rd, so not long to wait, with the second and third chapters coming in November and December respectively. With all of that to look forward to, we may very well see Spidey hold on to the number one spot for October and beyond.
