With the release of the PS5, players have access to technological improvements that were impossible on the previous generation of consoles. Graphics, performance, and improved detailing are just a few of the significant improvements. Spider-Man: Miles Morales may be available on the PS4, but there are several key differences that show why the PS5 version of the game is the definitive experience.

Updated on August 4, 2021, by Thomas Heath: Spider-Man Miles Morales continues to be the flagship title for the PS5, being the highest selling game on the system and offering players a first glimpse into the next generation of gaming. It makes great use of PS5 hardware, seen through its incredible graphics, fantastic framerate, and even its use of the PS5s Dualsense Controller. This updated list shows a few more differences between the game across both platforms.

10 Graphical Fidelity Mode on PS5

Opting to use the Graphical Fidelity Mode in Spider-Man: Miles Morales allows the game to run at a native 4k quality, all while keeping a rock-solid 30 frames per second. Fidelity Mode prioritizes the visual experience for the player, ensuring that the game looks the best it possibly can at all times.

This is a mode entirely exclusive to the PS5 version of the game, and it showcases the impressive level of quality the PS5 is capable of producing, especially for an open-world game. Those with the PS4 version won't have the option to play with these improved visuals.

9 Frame Rate On The PlayStation 5

The Tinkerer

The maximum output of the PS4 version of the game is 30 frames per second without the graphical improvements afforded to the PS5 version. Even in Graphical Fidelity Mode, a mode that focuses on improved visuals, Spider-Man: Miles Morales runs at 30 frames per second on the PS5.

In Performance Mode, players will see the PS5 game run at a smooth 60 frames per second consistently. While the PS4 version of the game will occasionally drop frames at 30 FPS, the PS5 is able to maintain double the framerate throughout the majority of the game. The Performance RT mode is also available, and offers 60 frames per second, as well as some Ray Tracing too, although the resolution is lowered to allow this.

8 Ray Tracing

Just like with Spider-Man Remastered on the PS5, ray tracing has been a significant focus with the upgrade to a more powerful console generation. Light is far brighter and more detailed in Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man Miles Morales for PS5, with ray tracing being seen for the first time on consoles.

Reflections are lifelike and light refraction is the most realistic it has ever been on a console. The PS4 version of the game is unable to replicate the effects of ray tracing, even on its most powerful iteration, the PS4 Pro. The feature is exclusive to PS5, and despite being absent in the game's performance mode it is well worth checking out, if only to stare in awe for a few moments before swinging back into the action.

7 Drastically Reduced Load Times On PS5

With the PS5 version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, players will be able to hop into the story of Miles Morales and Peter Parker far faster. Load times on the PS4 can take up to ten times longer, even when just switching missions or moving into new areas.

Loading the game on the PS5 only takes seconds, even if players are loading in from a completely powered-off system. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is capable of loading both Performance Mode and Graphical Fidelity Mode at this increased speed. Fast Travel is also instantaneous, heading from one side of the map to the other takes just seconds.

6 Graphical Details

Objects, weather effects, and characters all retain their detail from farther distances. Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be able to see the divets in armor, light bouncing off of metallic objects, and snow falling even when swinging from buildings throughout New York City. The city is more populated too, and there is no major pop in at any point even during the busiest sequences, Times Square looks as bustling as it does in real life.

On the PS5, Miles' Powers and abilities like Venom Blast and Venom Punch will illuminate the screen when used. Clothes, suits, and armor have better polish as well. Clothing is more vibrant and refined too, with the individual strands of Miles's fur hood rustling in the winter wind when he walks down the street.

5 Improved HDR Support

The PS5 has access to an increased range of colors and hues thanks to improved HDR support. Its predecessors, the original PS4 and PS4 Slim, are incapable of supporting the High Dynamic Range settings. While the PS4 Pro can take advantage of some HDR capabilities available with Spider-Man Miles Morales, the range provided is inferior to that of the PS5's.

Those who purchase the PS5 version of the game will notice a more vibrant picture throughout their playtime, so be sure to take a closer look at some of Miles' costumes in order to truly see how good the HDR support is in the game.

4 Haptic Feedback

PlayStation 5 Dualsense Controller

Haptic Feedback is present in Miles Morales on the PS5, with its most noticeable inclusion being when Miles is using his venom attacks. When he charges up a blast you'll be able to feel a vibration on the left side of the controller, with this shifting to the right-hand side after the attack is launched.

There is also implementation of the feature when Miles is in stealth mode, as well as during combat, with players being able to use feedback to tell the direction of incoming attacks.

3 Adaptive Triggers

The Adaptive Triggers have more subtle usage in Miles Morales, but it is certainly there, being most obvious when web-swinging. Every time you reach the end of a swing you'll feel some tension in the trigger before it loosens as you use a new web.

It's easy to miss, but once you feel it you won't be able to forget it. Both the triggers and haptic feedback are further enhanced if you turn on the Accessibility Vibration, Vibration Intensity, and Adaptive Trigger options in the games accessibility menu.

2 Ultimate Edition

The photo mode in Miles Morales has a load of great new features, including lighting sources, costume swapping, and an array of new stickers and filters for you to use in order to create the perfect photo.

You can even adjust the natural light within the photo, as well as being able to turn off enemies or weather effects. It's the most customizable photo mode we've seen on the PS5 and is capable of producing incredible pictures if you dedicate time to it.
