The "special demo" for Splatoon 2, sequel to Nintendo's squid-themed ink shooter, is now available for the Switch via the eShop. Players can also get an "ink-credible" 20% discount on a digital copy of the game from now until March 25.
In the demo, players will be able to play in four different game modes: four-on-four Turf Wars where teams compete to cover the most area of the battleground in ink, co-oping to take out evil Salmonids in Salmon Run, and pvp League and Ranked battles. Single-player story mode will be available in the full game, but not in the demo.

The full game also features new Inkling fashions, new weapons and gear, "remixes" of weapons from the original game, local multiplayer, post-launch updates with new events and content, and LAN play for up to 10 docked systems. Splatoon 2 is also compatible with all Splatoon series amiibo figures, allowing players to link their favorite weapons and outfits with an amiibo character. In order to access the demo, players will need to have a Nintendo Switch Online account. If you don't already have an account, Nintendo is providing access to the service for free during the demo period until March 25. All players have to do is download the demo from the eShop and they will receive a Switch Online code via email. However, the code will only be valid while the demo is live, and after the 25th players will no longer have access to the service.
Players can also purchase a Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership for 12 months bundles with a digital copy of Splatoon 2. And, if players do decide to purchase the full game after playing the demo, all progress from the demo will carry over into Splatoon 2.
Sadly, the 20% discount only applies to the original game, and not to the Octo Expansion DLC or game and DLC bundle. With the discount, Splatoon 2 is now selling for $47.99. The special demo period will run from Tuesday, March 19 at 7 a.m. PT to Monday, March 25 at 8:59 a.m. PT, giving players seven full days of ink-splatting fun to decide whether or not Splatoon 2 is worth the investment.
