Splitgate is a great shooter, taking the fundamentals of Halo and other classic competitive shooters, and implemented the portals you will have seen in, um, Portal. In Splitgate you can run through portals, shoot through portals, launch yourself out of them and across the stage - your imagination and skill is the limit. And in many game modes, you'll sometimes need to make a quick escape from enemies to heal up. Portals are perfect for that, if you use them correctly.

There are a lot of different ways to use portals in Splitgate, and we've got five tips for using portals right here. Once you've mastered using portals to bamboozle foes and send yourself flying around the maps, it's time to close them again. Obviously if you launch a new portal, if you have another portal of the same colour, it will disappear - that's one way to get rid of a pesky portal, but if you're running from foes and don't want them following you, you need to close your portal more quickly.

How To Close Portals In Splitgate

There are two ways to close down your portals in Splitgate.

First, you can open up a new portal. Only one portal of each colour can exist at any one time, so if you open up a new portal, your previous portal will be automatically removed. This is convenient, but if you need to close a portal quickly, and you don't see a location to launch a new portal, it can give you a few problems.

The better way to close a portal in a hurry is by press left or right on your controller's d-pad - that's Z and X on your PC's keyboard. These buttons will close each of your coloured portals automatically, meaning if you desire, you can close off everything you've opened so far.

Okay, so now you know how to close portals in Splitgate - but the question is, why would you want to? Well, the primary reason is to escape enemies. If a foe is hot on your tail and you need to get away fast, a portal is great, but they can follow you through it very easily.

Well, simple solution to that is to hop through a portal, and quickly tap the button to close one of them, preventing them from chasing after you, at least until you've healed up. You could also close the portal on the side you are on, and then re-open it in a position that makes it easier for you to shoot - with any luck, the enemies will hop through eagerly.

The Oddball game mode will have all players chasing after a single player holding a disco ball - if you're the one with the disco ball, being able to leap through portals and close them will often save your life, and perhaps win you the game.
