Splitgate is a game suffering from its own success. The Portal/Halo arena shooter hybrid has been staggering under the weight of increasing player counts since the game went to its console open beta on July 13. At first, there were only a few thousand players, but then it was 10,000, then 50,000, and then 65,000, at which point Splitgate hit the physical limit of its servers.

Developer 1047 Games had to take those servers down for emergency updates last Friday and has been desperately trying to increase server capacity since then. Yesterday, 1047 once again took the servers down ahead of the planned official launch today, but now it seems those plans have changed.

This morning's announcement was a mixed bag for Splitgate. On the plus side, 1047 announced it had secured an additional $10 million in funding that it can use to purchase more servers and hire additional staff. On the downside, the official launch has been postponed to August as 1047 implements these server expansions.

But that doesn't mean eager players are entirely without something to show for today.

As the servers come back online, players can expect to find three new maps, more cosmetic options, mouse and keyboard support on consoles, a FOV slider for consoles, and customizable controller mappings.

"Our team has been blown away by the incredible reception the Splitgate community has shown us. With the steep and sudden increase in players trying to access servers, we're having to sort out a myriad of technical issues that come with this level of insane growth," explained 1047 CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx in a prepared statement.

"That's why we're excited for Human Capital to lead this latest funding round. In addition to providing capital necessary to increase server capacity and stability, they'll help build the engineering team we need to create the best possible game for our players."

A new launch date hasn’t been set, but it’ll likely only come after 1047 secures enough servers to break six digits in terms of players. Stay tuned to Splitgate’s Twitter to find out when that is.
