THQ Nordic has announced SpongeBob The Cosmic Shake, a new 3D platformer from the team behind Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.

The Cosmic Shake was announced as part of THQ Nordic's 10th Anniversary livestream. It was revealed through a CG trailer that contained a ton of references to SpongeBob, starting with a reference to "Band Geeks" in the form of SpongeBob singing Sweet Victory throughout the trailer. At least Travis Scott doesn't interrupt this one.

The trailer shows SpongeBob and a miniaturized version of Patrick being sucked through portals to various different "Wishworlds", which resemble some areas we've seen in the show. SpongeBob and Sandy are first shown with their Karate Island gear, before being transported to a prehistoric world and appearing as SpongeGar. SpongeBob is then seen in his snail form from episode "I Was A Teenage Gary".

We also see SpongeBob riding Mystery the Seahorse in a cowboy outfit before going back to his Band Geeks outfit to finish the performance. We also get to see him wearing a suit of armour, somewhat reminiscent of the "Dunces and Dragons" episode.

In a press release, THQ Nordic described The Cosmic Shake as, "Everything is possible in the infinite expanses of the cosmos .. there might even be a reality where mayonnaise isn't an instrument! When the mysterious fortune teller Kassandra grants SpongeBob and Patrick wishes, the two buddies unintentionally open up portals to strange Wishworlds... it's all F.U.N. and games until their friends get lost in the portals! Explore seven distinct worlds and don more than 30 cosmic skins to rescue the universe".

It's not made clear from the trailer if any characters other than SpongeBob will be playable, but it looks like Patrick will accompany him throughout the different worlds, as he stays in the same miniature form throughout the trailer. The footage also makes it seem as if each of the cosmic skins will grant SpongeBob a different ability.

SpongeBob The Cosmic Shake will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
