Orignially set to release September 21st, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy has been delayed to November 13th. Toys for Bob Co-Studio Head, Paul Yan, announced this in an Activision blog post.

Paul Yan: "We're deeply committed to getting these games right, so we’ve decided to move the release date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy to November 13, 2018. I really hoped that you would be rescuing dragons and scorching Rhynocs sooner, but the Trilogy needs more love and care."

Yan would go on to say that the additional time will be "worth the wait." Based on the statements, it sounds like Spyro has been delayed so the game can be finessed for release. That is always a good thing, because most would agree that delaying a game in order to release the best possible version benefits the player. Also, releasing it after September may also have been a good thing simply because the month is packed with releases. Spider-Man for PS4 is releasing on September 7th, with Shadow of the Tomb Raider following a week later, on the 14th. That means Spyro would have released just one week after Tomb Raider. Life is Strange 2 also begins, and Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be releasing that month as well. Notable Nintendo Switch ports of popular games are also releasing, including Dragon Ball FighterZ and Undertale.

It would have been interesting to see how the Spyro Reignited Trilogy would have fared against so many notable titles. Being hotly anticipated itself, the Trilogy would have likely been okay. But, in comparison, November is a lighter month for game releases. What is interesting however, is that the Spryo remaster is releasing the day right before Fallout 76 launches. Fallout 76 was a much-discussed game during E3. (According to Twitter, Fallout 76 was the third most tweeted about new game of E3, behind Kingdom Hearts III and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.) Spyro releasing so close to Fallout may sound concerning, but it's important to remember that the games are focusing on two different demographics. Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer title, whereas Spyro Reignited Trilogy is meant to feature single player adventures, with a nostalgic factor for those who played the games when they originally released.

As we already know, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will remaster the original three games in series: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Interestingly, according to the Trilogy's official site, while the first game will be on disc, players will need to download the second and third game. The last Spyro game was The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, which released 10 years ago. It has been a long time, but Spyro will finally be back in three months.
