Square Enix has announced a new racing game Circuit Superstars, and it's available right now on Steam and Xbox One.
Racing games have been a staple of the video game world for almost as long as video games have existed. Right now you can pick up a controller and whizz around the streets of Monaco in an F1 car, get behind the wheel of a go-kart as Animal Crossing's Isabelle, and just about everything in between. All of this is why coming up with an all-new racing game not already steeped in history is incredibly difficult to do.
Enter Square Enix and its brand new, top-down racing game, Circuit Superstars. You can check out the launch trailer for the game below, and play it right now on Steam and Xbox One. The quirky racer will be coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch at a later date.
The trailer alone shows off that Circuit Superstars is unlike most other racing games available today, and there's a reason for that. The big-name collaborations that have worked on it to make it as appealing to fans of both motor racing and video games as possible. Those names include current F1 driver Lando Norris, and former F1 legend Romain Grosjean. Not to mention a team-up with BBC's Top Gear that will allow you to drive around the show's iconic test track in-game.
Circuit Superstars has actually launched with a free Top Gear DLC. Not only does that include the test track, but also a Stig costume and the chance to perfect the racers' above, and many others, racing lines on the track. The game's online multiplayer will let you race against 11 other competitors from around the world, and there's also a split-screen local multiplayer. Not to mention a single-player Grand Prix and also a free play mode allowing you to create your own events.
Square Enix probably isn't the first studio that springs to mind when you think of racing games. It seems to be eager to change that mindset, though. Not only via Circuit Superstars, but also Chocobo GP, a Final Fantasy kart racer launching in 2022. Circuit Superstars is available now on Steam and Xbox One, and keep your eyes peeled for when it speeds onto other platforms at a later date.
