Square Enix has revealed some new information about the final DLC episode for Final Fantasy XV in the form of screenshots that show the city of Insomnia during more peaceful times.

The official Twitter page for Final Fantasy XV has been updated with some new screenshots that show Ardyn in the city of Insomnia, which means that the player will be able to explore it in a way that they have been able to before, as Noctis leaves Insomnia at the start of Final Fantasy XV and he doesn't return until after it has been overrun by monsters. Ardyn will be a playable character in his DLC and he possesses the ability to move across the map quickly using his Shadow Walk power and can transform regular people into daemons in order to leave them helpless.

Episode Ardyn takes place thirty-five years before the events of Final Fantasy XV and it will detail how he was freed from his centuries of imprisonment and how he formed his alliance with the Niflheim Empire. The Episode Ardyn DLC also promises to reveal more information about Ardyn's origins and the events that led to him being sealed away in the first place.

Final Fantasy XV originally had three DLC chapters that were based on Noctis' three companions and what happened to them during periods of time when they were missing from the main story. A second round of DLC episodes was announced for Final Fantasy XV that would star Ardyn, Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis, but the last three were canceled and Hajime Tabata (the director of Final Fantasy XV) left Square Enix.

Episode Ardyn will be the final piece of new content released for Final Fantasy XV and it will represent the end of a story that has been in development since 2006 and has had its creative direction changed numerous times. The game once known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII is finally reaching the end of its journey and the final perspective will come from that of its villain.

Episode Ardyn will be released on March 26, 2019.
