Square Enix announced that a new Fullmetal Alchemist mobile game is coming this year for Android and iOS devices in Japan. Primarily taking inspiration from Hiromu Arakawa's original manga, "Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile," will be the first video game in the series in years.

This announcement came during the celebratory Fullmetal Alchemist 20th Anniversary Special broadcast, where Square Enix presented a teaser trailer for Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile. In the trailer, various famous quotes from throughout the series pop up as speech bubbles, and that's about it. There are yet to be any details on how the game will play, what the art will look like, or how monetization will factor in, but Square Enix promises that more news is coming later this year.

There wasn't any mention of a western release of Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile, but that doesn't mean it isn't coming eventually. As it stands right now, though, don't hold your breath waiting for it — at least not until Square Enix sheds more light on the game in "winter 2021," which should be around December.

Given that today marks the 20th anniversary of the series, Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile was only one of several announcements made during the broadcast. There'll be several art exhibitions for the series running in Tokyo and Osaka this winter and the following spring, a 20th-anniversary book commemorating the series, as well as the first few episodes of the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood anime being available for free on YouTube. There will also be a new manga from Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa soon, but it is unclear whether it will have anything to do with the series at all.

It's wild to think that Fullmetal Alchemist is now 20 years old and still just as popular as it ever was. Hopefully, Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile will see a western localization for fans over here that are pining for something new from the series.
