Avengers A-Day's take on Captain America looks incredibly similar to a far less impressive superhero from the past.

Earlier this week at E3, we finally got our first proper look at Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' Avengers game, A-Day. Following the success of Avengers: Endgame in the movie world earlier this year, the demand for information regarding a game based on our favorite Marvel heroes really increased. Now that we have it, reactions have been mixed.

Personally, we are big fans of what we have seen so far. The storyline seems interesting and it even looks as if we got little snippets of what to expect from the gameplay during the trailer. However, some fans have been left disappointed due to the characters not being voiced by their movie equivalents actors and also the lack of resemblance between the characters from the opposing universes.

Since the game takes place in a separate universe and does not follow on from what has happened in the MCU, we weren't expecting there to be such obvious parallels. However, it is obvious that the game's developers have taken inspiration from the movies. The line-up is the same as the original (aside from an absent Hawkeye) and it even appears to have the same humorous undertones. Note the quips from Tony Stark.

For those of you who have been left disappointed by the appearance of A-Day's Avengers, we have something that is probably going to cheer you up. As you can see from the tweet above, Captain America might not resemble his MCU counterpart, but he does look a lot like a much lesser hero called Captain Amazing. Amazing is a character from the far less successful superhero movie, Mystery Men.

That's not where the similarities end. FYI, if you haven't seen Mystery Men (come on guys, it has been 20 years) here comes a big spoiler. Much like Cap in A-Day, Amazing meets his demise before the story's end. Unlike Amazing, we don't imagine the death of Steve Rogers will be a permanent one. Cap has been listed as a playable character, so we're assuming he will return later in the game.
