Square Enix is breaking out of video games and getting into pro wrestling. CyberFight, a Japanese wrestling promotion, has partnered with Square Enix to produce a new theme song for pro wrestler Yoshiki Inamura, and it’s being made by the same people who helped create the Final Fantasy 14 soundtrack.

Famitsu reported that producer Takashi Tokita and sound director Masayoshi Soken will be creating Yoshiki Inamura’s new entrance theme. A preview of the new theme was broadcast at a press conference ahead of CyberFight Festival 2022, while the full song will be revealed at the coming event.

Inamura said he was “very happy” with the Square Enix collaboration, while Soken revealed that he’s actually a big fan of pro wrestling.

"Square Enix has many staff members who like professional wrestling, including myself, and I used to talk to Tokita about professional wrestling a lot," said Soken (with translation via Google). "To be honest, I was surprised. As a professional wrestling fan, I know full well how important it is to provide new songs to the players, so I am really honored."

In addition to creating Inamura’s new entrance song, Soken is also composing a new theme Tokyo Women's Pro Wrestling, which will also be revealed at CyberFight Festival 2022.

In other Square Enix news, Final Fantasy brand manager Shinji Hashimoto has officially announced his retirement. "I had worked with many people from various fields during my tenure," wrote the 64-year-old on Twitter. "From here on, I'd like to support Square Enix as a fan. Thank you very much."

Hashimoto served as producer or executive producer on over 100 Square Enix games, including most of the Final Fantasy titles published after 2001. Yoshinori Kitase takes over for Hashimoto as the Final Fantasy brand manager.
