A job posting online has just revealed that the First Development Division of Square Enix is taking initial steps toward developing an action game for the next generation of consoles. The yet-to-be-named title will be a new, original IP.

The job posting was spotted on the official Japanese-language Square Enix website by the Japanese video game website Games Talk, and then translated into English and shared by Gematsu. Details in the posting are sparse—surely by design—but nonetheless reveal some notable details about the upcoming project.

While the specific console or consoles for which the game is being developed are unnamed, the posting specifies an HD console or consoles as its platform of choice, likely suggesting the PS5 and/or Xbox Project Scarlett. The posting describes the title as being a AAA title for a brand new IP, rather than a spin off of one of Square Enix's many successful existing properties, a category into which most of their releases fall. The game is described as a "next generation action experience game," that somehow intends to exceed the scope and/or limits of what action games currently are and can be. In other words: it's ambitious.

Additionally, the posting specifies that the team behind the game will be composed of an international group of developers from all over the world. While the game is confirmed to be a AAA title in its short description, this seems to confirm that the scope of the game's release will extend well beyond Japan and is intended for a worldwide audience, much like mainline releases in the Final Fantasy franchise and many other major Square Enix releases.

The First Development Division of Square Enix, who are responsible for this future title, is the team behind Final Fantasy VII RemakeKingdom Hearts III and a number of SaGa games (a series that's very popular in Japan), among others. Given that FFVII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III are two of Square Enix's biggest recent releases, this seems to suggest even further that this unnamed upcoming title is meant to compete with the biggest and best of them.

Square Enix is likely going to continue pushing FFVII remake for the foreseeable future, so further details about the title likely won't drop until well after Final Fantasy buzz has died down.
