Crab Game is the closest thing we have to a Squid Game video game right now, and for what it is it's actually not that bad.

Squid Game has taken the world by storm since it launched on Netflix less than two months ago. The streaming service revealed more than 111 million households watched it within the first 28 days of its arrival. Since the show is based on a game, or a number of them, it has spawned homages and clones in Fortnite and Roblox, among other places.

One group has gone a step further than that and made an entire Squid Game-inspired game and is offering it up for free on Steam. It's called Crab Game and it features some of the childhood games that are the center of Squid Game. Red Light Green Light is there, as is the game from later in the series where competitors have to jump between panes of glass suspended high above the ground.

Some of Squid Game's games don't really lend themselves to a video game, of course. That's why the game in which you have to figure out what to do with a couple of bags of marbles hasn't found its way into Crab Game. Its creators have made up for that by adding things like tag and The Floor is Lava.

There are nine games and 30 maps in total. As you can see in the trailer above, it isn't the best-looking and smoothest game of all time. It doesn't need to be though and is still a lot of fun to play, especially since it can be played online with others. That's something a lot of people appear to be doing as its popularity on Steam continues to grow.

At the time of typing this, Crab Game's concurrent player count peaked just 40 minutes ago at more than 44,000 people. It's also getting a lot of attention on Twitch and is being watched by more than 90,000 people right now. That's more than Twitch heavyweights like Rocket League and PUBG Battlegrounds. Play it now before the Crab Game bubble bursts or it is replaced by an official Squid Game video game, something that has already been discussed by Netflix.
