Squid Game has been gaining traction for more than two weeks. It was only a matter of time before elements of it started to show up in Fortnite.

Squid Game is the South Korean Netflix show taking the world by storm. It is topping Netflix's most-watched charts around the world and is well on its way to becoming the most-watched show in the streaming service's history. That's despite it only hitting the platform midway through September.

The show is also starting to spawn homages in various video games and has now shown up in Fortnite for the first time. Not officially just yet, although considering Epic's penchant for crossovers in its flagship game you'd have to imagine that's coming like a freight train. No, this crossover is an unofficial one whipped up by an imaginative player in Fortnite's Creative Mode.

Glitch King is the mind behind the recreation, and they have even been giving away cash prizes for people who play their game and win. The Creative Mode mini-game is based on Red Light, Green Light, the playground game Squid Game's participants must play in the show's first episode. The contestants start behind one line and must make it past the other within the time limit. However, they must freeze when the giant creepy doll says red light, and can only move again when it says green light.

The recreation of the game in Fortnite is a little crude, but it gets the job done. Unlike the doll in Squid Game, Glitch King, or whoever is playing host, doesn't have the benefit of an army of loyal soldiers who look like they're sponsored by PlayStation. In the show, they are tasked with shooting anyone who moves. In Fortnite, the host has to watch for movers and shoot them instead.

Fortnite isn't the first game to receive some fanmade, Squid Game-inspired content. A far more Netflix-accurate version of Red Light, Green Light found its way into Roblox last week and has been played by 30 million people. Some of Squid Game's elements have also been recreated in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
