It's official, Squid Game has enjoyed the most successful launch in Netflix history having been watched by 111 million households and counting.

Once or twice a year a TV show will be watched so widely that it feels as if it is the only thing anyone is talking about. Right now, that TV show is Squid Game. Netflix very quickly revealed that the South Korean thriller was on track to become its most-watched show ever. It has now confirmed it has enjoyed the best launch ever, revealing Squid Game has been watched by 111 million households and counting.

Netflix shared a tweet revealing that 111 million households have watched Netflix in its first 28 days. That means the show can boast the biggest launch in the streaming giant's history by quite some way. That title was once held by season one of The Witcher and then taken by Bridgerton which was watched by 82 million households.

Squid Game has eclipsed that record, and it will be fascinating to see how high that number gets should Netflix decide to share that data. As for which of its subscribers Netflix counts as someone who has watched Squid Game, you don't need to have seen all nine episodes. You don't even need to have watched one. Netflix counts anyone who has watched two minutes of any episode as a view.

If you watched two minutes of Squid Game and decided against it, then myself and literally millions of others can tell you why the show is worth another shot. It is gripping the world for a reason and also spraking a number of unofficial spin-offs in the video game world. Copies of Red Light, Green Light have already shown up in Roblox and Fortnite.

Watched by 111 million households, number one in 90 countries. It's no accident Squid Game is this popular. Netflix continues to put the leg work in when it comes to its global reach. While many of you will have watched Squid Game in Korean with subtitles, the show has been dubbed into 30 different languages. You'll struggle to find something matching that effort in any show on any platform. It's evident Netflix knew Squid Game would be a hit.
