While Stalker 2: Heart Of Chernobyl will have a much larger world than its predecessors, there won’t be any vehicles available to the players this time, GSC Game World has confirmed. There is a good reason behind this from the lore perspective that fans of the series will surely understand.

The studio’s PR manager Zakhar Bocharov has spoken about Stalker 2’s open-world environment and its unique features in a new interview with DTF. While Bocharov was very secretive about the project, he explicitly confirmed that Heart Of Chernobyl will not have any vehicles or driving sequences, for better or worse.

Bocharov said the size of the map in Heart Of Chernobyl will be massive, more than 64 square kilometers. However, players cannot control vehicles for fast-travel purposes, as there are many dangers in the Zone and you need to move slowly and carefully while exploring it. The world of Stalker is known for its unstable anomalies that can randomly spawn in new areas. Using a car under those conditions is not a very wise move. The PR manager added that a fast-travel system would be available to the players in Stalker 2, but in an “unusual way.”

Bocharov also said no planned features were cut from Stalker 2 during the course of development. For the record, vehicles were planned for the first game Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl back in 2007, only to be cut prior to the final release for various reasons. The content was partially restored in the PC-version by different user mods.

If you’re interested not only in shooting stuff but in driving through a setting like this, you may want to keep an eye for Atomic Heart. This first-person shooter from Russian devs previously got official screenshots with a protagonist behind the wheel.

Stalker 2: Heart Of Chernobyl will be one of the largest games ever coming from Ukraine with more than 300 people working on the shooter. The game will feature full English, Russian, and Ukrainian voice-over directly at launch, so it is possible to choose native dubbings for a more immersive experience.

Stalker 2: Heart Of Chernobyl will launch on April 28, 2022. The title is coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S via Game Pass on day one, but the PS5-version of the game will only arrive at least three months later.
