The number of space exploration games seems to grow with the availability of better and more affordable technology. Among them is the crowd-funded oddity from Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts Star Citizen. Though the game has no dedicated release date, the studio puts out tons of content talking about what they're working on and adding to the game. Most of these updates involve space ships in some form.

There are a number of different spaceships that have been unveiled in Star Citizen with more on the way. Each serves to fulfill a different role for players who seek to make a living bounty hunting, trading, mining, or any number of activities.

In the universe of Star Citizen are 14 spaceship manufacturers who are responsible for all of the crafts the player can fly. Some specialize in military craft with others in high-end luxury vehicles and yet more in more practical machinery. Here are all the spaceship manufacturers in the game ranked by their best products.

14 Consolidated Outland

Star Citizen (CO) Mustang Nomad

Consolidated Outland is known for producing low-cost, but quality spacecraft. Their reputation largely stems from their Mustang line. The Mustang Alpha is for cargo, Mustang Gamma for racing, and the Mustang Beta serves as a Pathfinder.

Their CNOU Nomad is also instantly recognizable for its UFO-ish design and is a versatile ship. While these are reliable and useful vessels they’re not all that spectacular at any one thing. The Mustangs are the company’s one saving grace.

13 ARGO Astronautics

Star Citizen (ARGO) Mole Carbon SRV

ARGo Astronatuics specializes in prospecting and mining spacecraft. Their ships are designed for practicality first with a splash of fashion and design thrown on afterward. The ARGO Mole Carbon Edition is a prime example of this.

Outside of the ARGO Mole line, the ARGO Astronautics company has the SRV civilian ship and the MPUV line for transporting cargo or passengers. These ships are the workhorses of the galaxy and their design reflects this.

12 Origin Jumpworks GmbH

Star Citizen (Origin) 125a 600i

Origin Jumpworks GMBH is the one manufacturer that exclusively focuses on high-end luxury spacecraft for civilians. The 600I series of ships is meant for touring and exploration to the more paradisical parts of space. The only combat ship they manufacture is the 125A but it is more for surviving a trip across space than wading into battle.

This company produces ships for wealthy individuals looking for adventure but not danger. For instance, someone who enjoyed Hardspace: Shipbreaker might not be into this spaceship brand. It can be perceived as favoring aesthetics over mechanics.

11 Aopoa

Star Citizen (Aopoa) Khartu Santokyai

Aopoa has the unique challenge of replicating Xi’an ships for human use. They’ve only produced two starships so far: the Khartu-Al and the San’tok.Yai. The San’tok.Yai is a medium fighter that’s very nimble and very fast for its size.

The Khartu-Al is a light fighter with an iconic design and fierce potential in battle. It is likely that this company will release more ships over time, but for now, the rest of the Xi’an’s potential is locked away from humans.

10 Kruger Intergalactic

Star Citizen (Kruger) P-52 Merlin P-72 Archimedes

Kruger Intergalactic is known for the P-52 Merlin and the P72 Archimedes ships. The Merlin is a Snub Fighter meant to accompany the RSI Constellation built by Roberts Space Industries. Its sleek design makes for a fast and highly maneuverable fighter.

The P72 Archimedes and the Emerald variants are both racing ships. Their design is identical to the Merlin with different colors and aesthetics. None of the Kruger Intergalactic ships can stand on their own, but they are beautiful to look at and great racers.

9 Banu (Species Ships)

Star Citizen (Banu) Defender Merchantman

The Banu is a peaceful and industrious race of aliens. They are known for being the best traders and merchants in the galaxy (not unlike the Volus in the Mass Effect universe). Their ships are designed to accommodate this fact boasting tremendous cargo capacities and designs.

The Banu do not necessarily have designs available to humans as of yet, but two ships have been designed for human use: the Merchantman and the Banu Defender. The Banu Defender is a simple fighter, but the Merchantman is the pride and joy of the Banu. Simply put, the Merchantman is the most sought-after trade ship in the universe.

8 Vanduul (Species Ships)

Star Citizen Vanduul Ships

The Vanduul are a highly aggressive and ferocious race that produce military ships almost exclusively. Like the Banu, they do not design ships available across intergalactic commerce lines. The developers of Star Citizen did reveal the Scythe, but most Vanduul ships are still in the development phase.

The Scythe is a terrifying foe to face on the battlefield. It’s capable of tremendous speed, handling, and boasts fierce armaments. This Sci-Fi ship that looks like a metallic bird is worth buying for the aesthetics alone. It is considered one of the rarest (if not the rarest) ships in the game.

7 Roberts Space Industries

Star Citizen (Roberts) Constellation

Roberts Space Industries is the manufacture known to have developed the first quantum motor. Their ships are designed for long hauls in space whether exploring, fighting, or mining. The Mantis is a gorgeous stealth vessel for military use on long voyages.

But their Constellation line is by far their most popular. The Aquila is for planetary and space exploration, the Taurus is an entry-level ship into crew management, and the Andromeda is the most popular by far. For those wanting to spend months or even years in space, these ships are the way to do it.

6 Musashi Industrial & Starflight Concern (MISC)

Star Citizen (Musashi) Endeavor

Musahi Industrial & Starflight Conceren are the kings of industrial spaceship design. The Hull E is the largest freighter on the market and solo freighters flying the Freelancer are highly sought after.

The Prospector is a common site mining asteroids and The Endeavor is essentially a flying laboratory (seen above) that can perform research in deep space or function as a mobile hospital. This company’s ships represent the backbone of the galactic economy.

5 Anvil Aerospace

Star Citizen (Anvil) Arrow Hawk

Anvil Aerospace ships are the workhorse of any space military. The Arrow is a sleek fighter that manages to achieve both function and fashion. The Hawk is a terrifying light fighter that can hound enemies planet side or among the stars.

The company is also known for various ground vehicles and logistical vessels. Whether it’s to launch an invasion or defend from one these ships will be in demand.

4 Drake Interplanetary

Star Citizen (Drake) Buccaneer Kraken

Drake Interplanetary has built an infamous reputation for crafting outlaw vessels. Fighters, carriers, transport, salvage, and even racing ships are built by this shady corporation. Not to say their ships are solely for ill-intent, but any pilot would be nervous to see a Buccaneer on their scanners.

The Kraken is perhaps the best embodiment of this company’s philosophy. It is designed to withstand the cruelties of the universe as a war machine capable of traveling the stars on long voyages. It can just as easily be used peacefully to keep its crew alive or rip apart other ships for their loot.

3 Esperia (Exotics)

Star Citizen (Esperia) Talon Shrike Blade

Esperia has the interesting challenge of taking Vanduul ships and replicating them for human use. The results are some of the most iconic and terrifying ships in the universe. These ships are armed to the teeth, fast, and give little thought to the safety of the pilot.

The Esperia Talon Shrike is terrifying in swarms. The Glaive is basically the human version of the Scythe. But perhaps the most nightmarish ship in Esperia’s lineup is the Blade - a first wave assault craft. They shoot down communication arrays, overwhelm defenders, and chase down any ship foolish enough to flee.

2 Crusader Industries

Star Citizen Crusader Ares Inferno

Crusader Industries builds ships for commercial transport and military use. Their ships come in either white or black and are very powerful on the battlefield.

The M2 Hercules is a transport ship with teeth that can get soldiers in and out of combat safely and efficiently. The real eye candy is the Crusader Ares Inferno, this dark ship can take down ships far above its weight class and can punch holes in the strongest armors.

1 Aegis Dynamics

Star Citizen (Aegis) Eclipse Javelin

Perhaps the best spaceship manufacturer in Star Citizen is Aegis Dynamics. They build everything from civilian to military craft. From little Avenger Stalkers to the biggest ship in the game the Javelin they do it all.

This company is also known for sleek bombers like the Sabre Comet and the haunting Eclipse. Their Hammerhead gunships are also instantly recognizable and strike fear into any pilot’s hearts. If one manufacturer could conquer the galaxy it would be this one.
