CitizenCon is returning this weekend. Yes, that’s not a lot of advance notice, but that’s okay because Cloud Imperium Games isn’t selling tickets. CitizenCon will return on October 9 as an all-digital event that’s broadcast on Star Citizen’s Twitch channel.

"CitizenCon represents the spirit of our passionate community. Together with our players, we are building the most ambitious and expansive game development project in history," said Star Citizen creative director and Cloud Imperium co-founder Chris Roberts. "This year's CitizenCon represents our chance to share our work and progress with our growing community and we can't wait to show everyone what's coming for Star Citizen."

Cloud Imperium says that eager fans can expect a full day of events, panels, and "special surprise reveals." Opening remarks will be provided by Roberts himself, with panels diving deep into Star Citizen's economy, server meshing, planetary development tools, anticipated ships, and more.

Viewers can expect a free digital goodies pack including a special spacesuit and a weapon, as well as this year's commemorative CitizenCon trophy. Winners of the fan-made video and cosplay contests will also be announced.

You can watch CitizenCon on Star Citizen's Twitch channel starting at 9 AM PST (4 PM BST). Afterward, the full presentation will be placed on Star Citizen's YouTube page.

Star Citizen remains a controversial game for its extensive use of crowdfunding, which is closing in on $400 million in funding. This despite repeatedly missing development milestones and delaying indefinitely the release of Star Citizen's action-oriented spinoff, Squadron 42. Most recently, Cloud Imperium was slapped with a warning from the UK Advertising Standards Authority for not making clear that many of the spaceships Star Citizen sells aren’t in-game yet, and in some cases may never be released.

It seems a bit strange to be hosting conventions for a game that’s not even out yet, but then again, Star Citizen has always been about putting the cart before the horse.
