Characters from the movies like Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine have also made forays into the games. While some of the iconic, best villains in Star Wars are no longer canonical in the Star Wars universe, their greatness is still evident, and some can stand alongside the legendary movie villains too.

9 Gideon Hask – Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

Gideon Hask as seen in Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017)

Two of the running themes in Star Wars are allegiance and loyalty, and both are encapsulated in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 by Gideon Hask, a one-time member of Inferno Squad alongside Iden Versio. When a mission required Iden to betray her people, she left Hask and the Empire behind.

Hask went on to become a high-ranking official within the Empire and eventually The First Order, his feelings of betrayal festering within him. Hask was loyal to his side, he truly believed himself to be ‘the good guy’ in the war, and that’s what makes him such a great villain.

In Shadows of the Empire, Boba Fett shows up as a boss fight. There, he shows off his skills in combat and the many weapons at his disposal, and he demonstrates just how much of a threat he is.

Boba Fett cements himself as one of the greatest Star Wars villains, despite not wielding the force or a lightsaber.

7 Darth Nihilus – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords

Many Star Wars villains have a striking and/or imposing look about them. Even if you don’t know anything about them, you can tell just by looking that they’re a bad guy.

Darth Nihilus is both striking and imposing. He’s a spooky threat slowly hunting you down in Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Nihilus had an endless hunger for the force, a desire for more. As the story of the game progressed, it became clear that he was not the primary antagonist, his master was.

A master he presumed was dead at his own hand. Nihilus’ backstory is full of twisted, dark side events and moments, making him more than a visually striking bad guy.

6 Darth Sion – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords

Using the dark side of the force, Sion can live a near-immortal life. The force is literally the only thing holding his decaying body together, and the price of that is a life of pain and agony, fueling the dark side further.

Sion is also just another pawn of a bad guy in the game, with the main antagonist using him throughout your journey.

5 General Rom Mohc – Star Wars: Dark Forces

A veteran of the clone wars, Rom Mohc went on to be a key official in the Empire. He had a fascination with cybernetics and technology, wanting to create soldiers capable of more than ever before, and the result of that was the first-ever Dark Trooper.

Hero Kyle Katarn, a former Jedi thwarted Mohc’s hopes and plans, but only barely. Mohc’s greatness is perfectly displayed in The Mandalorian, a show which has ripped plot points and character beats straight from Mohc and planted them into the show. While Mohc and almost everything that made him who and what he is, is no longer canon, he continues to be a big influence on Star Wars.

Kreia was once a Jedi Master focused on teaching the new, upcoming Jedi, as well as learning all there was to know about the force. She was exiled though when her methods were questioned, and her one-time apprentice rose to become Darth Revan.

You meet Kreia in Knights of the Old Republic II, first believing she is a force-sensitive, elderly woman. She trains you, guides you, and manipulates you throughout the game.

However, her goal was simple, since by using you she wanted to rid the universe of the force.

Searching for the Star Forge, a means of destroying the Jedi, he and Revan continued their attacks against the Republic and the Jedi alike. An argument resulted in Malak losing his jaw at the hands of Revan’s lightsaber, giving Malak his iconic, imposing look.

This eventually led to Malak turning on Revan and leaving him to the Jedi.
