Did you hear? No, no, not millions of voices suddenly crying in terror and being silenced. Rumors are swirling that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 3 is in development, sourced from a Disney insider.
Known for his predictions under Disney’s umbrella, Daniel Richtman ignited the explosive rumor that a third installment of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was in its early stages of development. Speaking exclusively to his Patreon supporters, Richtman stated that a third entry - 10 years after the series’ sequel - was in the works, providing very little information, according to We Got This Covered. Unfortunately, the only way to verify Richtman’s statement is by backing him on Patreon, as there has been no official word from Disney or EA.
Since 2013, EA has owned the rights to make Star Wars games after signing a deal with Disney. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was originally released in 2008 as the first title within The Force Unleashed project, established by LucasArts. A sequel was released in 2010 - titled Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II - which featured an open-ended conclusion to warrant a future third release for the series. Due to the sequel’s disappointing sales and the termination of developer LucasArts in 2013, the project’s third title was shelved.
It's worth noting that EA’s involvement in The Force Unleashed’s third title is unlikely at the moment. The publisher has produced two Star Wars titles very recently: the successful Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Squadrons. A sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order has already been debated amongst the gaming community - who want former Darth Vadar apprentice Ahsoka Tano as its protagonist - and will likely be the next title on EA’s to-do list. That’s not to say that The Force Unleashed project is a dying star, however, as EA may be looking for another Star Wars project - alongside Jedi: Fallen Order - as Star Wars: Squadrons is meant to be a stand-alone title.
Jedi: Fallen Order will be heading to Stadia on November 24, and a free short story will also be released within Star Wars: Squadrons, for fans to immerse themselves in until the next chapter of Star Wars video games.
