Star Wars may be set in a galaxy far, far away, but for many fans, it remains near and dear to their hearts. Beyond the Original Trilogy, Star Wars' story stretches from the Deep Core of the galaxy all the way to the worlds of the Outer Rim and beyond.

Of course, one of the reasons so many people love the series is the sheer epic potential of the Jedi, and in the world of games, their Force abilities make for the ultimate power fantasies. With that in mind, here are the ten most powerful Jedi who are playable characters in video games:

10 Luke Skywalker

After Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star and defeated the Emperor, he more than proved himself a hero, but that was just the beginning of his journey. He inherited all of his father's strengths, then surpassed his old man.

No video game will ever be able to capture Luke's full potential, as game mechanics can't measure midi-chlorians, but that doesn't make playing him any less fun. Before any of the spinoffs or remakes, there was just Luke, the first of a new generation of Jedi, and he remains as awesome now as he was when he first picked up his father's lightsaber.

9 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi only appeared briefly in the Original Trilogy, but in the prequels, fans finally saw his full might as he took down the fearsome Jeid-killer General Grievous and even cut the limbs from Anakin Skywalker during their duel on Mustafar.

In 2001, he starred in his own video game, Star Wars: Obi-Wan. Interestingly, this game took place before The Phantom Menace while Qui-Gon Jin was still alive.

8 Cal Kestis

The star of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis was a Jedi hiding from the Empire and cut off from the Force entirely. Gradually, he regained his powers, eventually defeating Imperial Inquisitors and even surviving an encounter with Darth Vader!

Cal is a fascinating character who fans hope to see more of. Frankly, it would be cool to see him team up with other Jedi like Luke Skywalker in future games.

7 Mace Windu

Many people considered Mace Windu the Chosen One. While this fan theory was eventually dismissed, it speaks to just how powerful the Jedi was and to his skill with that  purple lightsaber.

Mace appeared as a playable character in a number of video games that take place prior to the rise of the Empire, among them the 2002 game Star War: The Clone Wars. He was also available for versus mode in the video game for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

6 Revan

The protagonist of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Darth Revan was a controversial character. He was a Jedi turned Sith turned Jedi again. Depending on the player's choices, he could become a Sith once more. Talk about a confusing moral alignment!

Few Jedi or Sith ever wielded the amount of power that Revan possessed. He was a fearsome lightsaber combatant and even more gifted with his mastery of the Force. He also traveled into the Unknown Regions and discovered ancient secrets lost to galactic history, saving the Galactic Republic from threats they never knew existed.

5 Meetra Surik

While she is never named in the game, Meetra Surik was the name of the protagonist of Knights of the Old Republic II. After she was banished from the Jedi Order, Meetra wandered the galaxy and survived the Jedi Purge.

While not as powerful as Revan, Meetra Surik was notable for defeating far more powerful enemies and for her ability to influence others.

4 Yoda

Perhaps the greatest Jedi Grandmaster to ever hold a seat on the Jedi High Council, Yoda was truly a legend. Luke's teacher lived for centuries and his skill with a lightsaber was enough to make even Palpatine quake with fear.

He was also a playable character in Star Wars: Battlefront II. To clarify, the good original version of Battlefront II that came out in 2005.  Yoda was among the heroes who players could take charge of, and while he was still too overpowered to properly translate into the game's combat system, he still dominated the battlefield.

3 Galen Marek/Starkiller

Galen Marek (also known by his Sith name, Starkiller) was the protagonist of The Force Unleashed and its sequel, a game designed to showcase the sheer awesomeness and power of wielding the Force without any restraint.

Whether or not Galen Marek should qualify as a "Jedi" seems a matter of debate as to whether he technically fits the term, but as many fans would be upset if he was not included on this list, those technicalities can be swept aside for the time being. He slew Jedi Masters and used his Force Pull ability to tear a Star Destroyer out of the air. His powers were almost on par with Vader's.

2 Rey Skywalker/Rey Palpatine

Rey was a playable character in some levels of Star Wars: Battlefront II (the more recent controversial version from 2017, unfortunately). While she was not featured during the events of the main quest, she was one of the heroes that players could control. She was also a playable character in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

While many fans found her story polarizing, Rey was an awesome character with amazing abilities. It is a pity that the film trilogy starring her was so divisive and that she has not starred in more video games, as her powers were off the charts while she had a genuinely compelling personality and backstory.

1 Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One, destined to bring balance to the Force. Unfortunately, "balance" apparently meant killing all the good Force users who were in control of the galaxy. The betrayal of the Jedi Council, murder of younglings, and a number of other sadistic acts all compound to transform young Anakin into the cyborg Sith Lord Darth Vader--arguably the greatest villain in all of science fiction.

There are so many games featuring Darth Vader as a playable character that it is impossible to name them all, but the opening level of The Force Unleashed is a classic example of Vader slicing a path of crimson destruction with his red lightsaber. Meanwhile, the video game for Star War Episode III: Revenge of the Sith reminded players that before he fell and became the Dark Lord, Anakin was among the most powerful Jedi who ever lived.
