Is that a moon? No, it's the approaching launch date for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The eagerly anticipated sequel to the best-selling Fallen Order. EA and Respawn's follow-up has had a big budget thrown at it, and the game comes freighted with expectation, especially since the first game was already triple-A, while fans of Star Wars and Cal Kestis are very much looking forward to catching up with the Jedi and his band of outcasts.

From reports, Survivor is going to be a major expansion on the previous game, with bigger maps and more to explore. But this also comes with a cost: most of us are going to need to make room in our hard drives. Because whether it's on PlayStation 5 or PC or Xbox Series X, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is taking up a whole heck of space. However, one game platform in particular can breathe a small sigh of relief.

You ready? Deep breath. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes up a whopping 155GB of storage space on PC; on the PS5 you'll be needing 147.57GB of space; while on the Xbox Series X players get a slight advantage as the game requires 139GB of space. It's a chunky game this Jedi adventure, nearly matching well-known space hogs like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But those who are downloading Survivor on the Xbox Series S have it better (via TheGameSpoof).

On Xbox's less powerful current-gen machine, Jedi Survivor will take up a mere 44GB of space. Good thing really as the cheaper Xbox Series S has quite a limited amount of memory. Off the shelf, the Xbox Series S comes with 512GB of onboard storage, in contrast with the Xbox Series X's 1TB SSD. However, in reality the Xbox Series S only offers about 364GB of usuable space for games, which makes the 44GB of Survivor all the more welcome.

But why exactly is the file size of the Xbox Series S version of the game so much smaller? It could be to do with the capabilities of the console itself. While the Xbox Series X and PS5 are both capable of 4K output, with their more powerful CPUs and GPUs, the Xbox Series S is only capable of 1440p output at the maximum, with some upscaled 4K, but in reality many games shipping on the Series S are outputting at 1080p to ensure more stable performance.

With the scale of Jedi Survivor's levels and the amount of detailed assets in the game, and having to contain 4K versions of such assets, most likely contributes to the game's huge file size on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X. Being limited to 1440p (at maximum) on the Xbox Series S means smaller file sizes since higher resolution assets aren't needed. This is just an educated guess, of course, and Respawn would be able to better explain. But for those on Xbox Series S, players should look forward to a speedier download.
