Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fans are discussing whether Cal Kestis should become a Grey Jedi in the third game in the Jedi trilogy, and they don't seem too fond of the idea.

For quite some time now, one of the most popular character archetypes in the Star Wars universe is the "Grey Jedi", a Force user that doesn't truly align themselves with either the Light side or the Dark. Popular examples of this include Ahsoka Tano (although never officially said), the Force Unleashed's Starkiller, and even Qui-Gon Jinn in some Legends material. Now, fans are discussing whether or not they want Jedi: Survivor's protagonist, Cal Kestis, to join the team. Although Star Wars fans have discussed pretty much every Force user under the sun becoming a Grey Jedi at one point or another, the reason why it's being talked about for Cal Kestis is because of the events in the second half of Jedi: Survivor. Not only does Cal give into the darkness at several points in the story (including through a new Dark Side time-slowing ability) but he also tells Merrin towards the end that the Jedi Order is gone and that he's going to do things his own way.

Considering how popular the term "Grey Jedi" has become over the past few years, you'd think that Star Wars fans would like that idea, but it seems that the majority of them are actually against it. Over on the Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor subreddit, Redditor DanteDevils started a thread discussing the idea and actively arguing that it shouldn't happen, both because it doesn't fit Cal's character and because George Lucas is against it.

The post quickly became one of the most-liked on the subreddit over the past few days and, although I was expecting some kind of culture war in the comments below, it seems like a majority of Star Wars fans agree, or at least see why the term Grey Jedi is a bit confusing. Several comments point out that the concept as a whole is oxymoronic and that it's more shorthand for a Jedi who doesn't follow the code than it is for someone who uses light and dark powers.

One of the main arguments presented in the thread is that, although the third game in the trilogy will likely be about Cal confronting his dark side (something that fans want to see), the concept of a "Grey Jedi" simply doesn't make sense, especially when Cal basically told Merrin that he's done with the Order and that he's accepted that it's gone.
