The Force Tears in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor provide a variety of challenges, from wave-based brawls to acrobatic platforming gauntlets. The Fractured Malice force tear is one of the gritter tasks available to Cal Kestis, pitting him against two Rancors in a deadly cage match, and these creatures are just as dangerous as the solo counterpart you can fight on Koboh.

The only upside to this rage-inducing challenge is that, like the other force tears, repeat attempts are quick and simple. With enough determination, patience, and good spacing, you'll be able to become one with the force and slay these legendary beasts.

How To Find The Force Tear: Fractured Malice

To reach the force tear, you'll need to complete Chapter Four journey through the Lucrehulk and obtain the "lift and slam" force ability. Then, return to the Mantis and travel to Coruscant.

The tear is located in the Rooftops area of the Coruscant Undercity, which you'll have passed through during the game's opening mission, so you must fast-travel to the Rooftops meditation point.

Drop onto the pipe right next to the meditation point and hang from it, then swing your way to the other side. Run across the walkway and drop down onto the rooftops, dealing with the Imperials in your way.

Double jump across to the other roof, then take an immediate right and climb upwards. On your left, you'll find a room with several imperials and a security droid.

There is a door that can be force lifted on the right side of the room, with the force tear inside.

Similarly to the force tear Fractured History, the challenge from this fight comes from managing two extremely dangerous bosses at once. Positioning is vital as you need to avoid being overwhelmed by the Rancors' crushing swipes, and while they have a limited moveset, their attacks are extremely dangerous.

Any combat-focused force tear, such as Fractured Malice, won't give you the full health and force restore from the "find your foe" respawn mechanic.

Rancor Boss Moveset

While you can parry any blockable attack that isn't a stomp - and should aim to, if you don't have the space to move - we recommend leaning on spacing, dodging, and precision evades, as a failed parry will tear through your posture bar in one or two hits at higher difficulties.

Against one Rancor this isn't a problem, as its combos aren't long enough to take advantage of your staggered state. Against two, however, being staggered can put a brutal end to your run, as the other boss can follow up in a deadly one-two combo.

Overhead Slams

The Rancor Swings its arms in wide overhead strikes. At higher difficulties, these swings will take out most of your health bar.

Quick Slam

The Rancor lifts up its right arm and smashes it into the ground. This can be followed by a wild sweep of its arm.

Dual Punches

The Rancor uppercuts twice. This attack has a very short range, so you can either parry it or back up.

Wide Claws

The Rancor swings both of its arms in wide, sweeping attacks. These can be parried, precision evaded or jumped over.

Wounded Flail

The Rancor staggers from your attack, then swing twice with a short range and roars. If you stagger the Rancor, back up to let it throw its tantrum.

Stomps

The Rancor stomps onto the ground. This attack needs to be jumped over.

Colossal Smash (Unblockable)

The Rancor lifts both of its arms into the air and crashes down, creating a damaging wave you'll need to jump over.

Devour Grab (Unblockable)

The Rancor reaches one hand back and lunges to grab a Jedi snack. This is a one-hit kill, and needs to be dodged.

General Strategy

As is the case with any dual-boss fight, keeping an eye on both Rancors is vital. Their models are large, so they can sometimes even get in the way of each other's attacks - though this isn't something you should rely on, as attacks like their Devour Grab can reach you no matter what, even through a wall of Rancor flesh.

The major threat is being overwhelmed by their high-damage, high-stagger attacks, and while their moves are slow, telegraphed, and predictable, they are also extremely punishing. Even with a fully-upgraded health bar, you will go down to one or two swings at higher difficulties.

It's important to keep your distance and avoid committing too hard to your attacks. If you're in melee range and they're both clawing at you, something's gone wrong, so dodge away as fast as you can to reset to a neutral footing.

Overconfidence is the enemy in this fight, and even though the Rancors aren't hard to keep at bay, it only takes one good strike to end your run for good. The Devour Grab attack comes out surprisingly fast, can track you even if you jump, and will one-shot you regardless of your current health.

Both Rancors have very large posture bars. While Parrying is a great option if you're backed into a corner, it's not worth it to fish for parries since you'll be spending a lot of time backing off and creating distance, giving them plenty of time to regenerate it.

There are a few key ability upgrades we recommend for this fight.

  • The Crossguard Stance: Specifically, the Impact and Greater Impact shockwave abilities. The Rancors have large hitboxes, making it easy to hit both with one shockwave.
  • The Blaster Stance: You'll be keeping the Rancors at arm's length, so consistent ranged damage is always helpful.
  • Howling Push (Force): This upgrade will let you hold down your force push button to stagger both Rancors at once. This lets you set the pace of the fight, buying time to heal, reposition, or sneak in some extra damage.
  • Power of Friendship (Resilience): This upgrade replenishes your force meter whenever you use a stim, fueling force pushes, Crossguard Stance shockwaves or lightsaber throws.

Unlike other bosses, the Rancors don't have a noticeable "enrage" mechanic at lower health. While you don't want to drag the fight out, as one Rancor is easier to defend against, it's fine to simply sneak in damage when possible.

Keep a clear head, trust in the force, and you'll be rewarded with a Skill Point and can take comfort in knowing you'll be well-prepared if a Hutt throws you into their Rancor death pit in the future.
