Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has plenty of content to engage with, but one of the most enjoyable diversions is the excellent Holotactics game. Once you rescue Bhima and Tulli, the two will set up this delightful game on the second floor. New opponents will unlock as you recruit them in your journey.

But what of the game itself? Well, it is built around knowing how units work and targeting their weaknesses. Your units will be composed of the enemies you have defeated in your journey. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about your opponents and will provide you with winning strategies for beating them. We will also make sure to give you some alternate suggestions, just for those who haven't acquired all the units yet, but still want to compete.

General Tactics

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Supporting the fearsome Skriven with Stormtroopers, Holotactics

We're going to just drop a few hints here for those who want a little help but don't want to be directly given strategies.

Team Composition Dynamics

Star Wars Jedi Survive, The Droidka backed up by a small army, Holotactics

The key to winning Holotactics is to counter your opponent's strengths. Of course, every unit has a weakness, so a big part of the game is understanding what those weaknesses and choosing the right unit to counter your opponent's. However, as you fight tougher foes, you will need to start to thoughtfully compose teams that can cover the weaknesses of your strongest units. Here are some of the strongest units, and how to use them.

  • The Droidka will, generally, win against ranged units, but it can be dismantled by explosives and melee. A great unit to pair with the Droidka is a whole bunch of B1 Melee Droids, as they can take attention away from from the Droidka as the take units out from afar.
  • The Skriton, on the other hand, is nigh invulnerable and will demolish most units, though they are also weak to explosive attacks. They are best paired with ranged units, as they can help to cover them, hopefully taking out enemies with explosives.
  • The BX Droids, on the other hand, are extremely agile, and circumvent explosions easily. Though, if they run up against a more sturdy unit, they'll get crushed quickly. They are easy to balance out, as they pair well with nearly every unit type.

Point Allotment Management

Star Wars Jedi Survive, A row of Stormtroopers wiping a team, Holotactics

Whatever points you don't spend in Holotactics will be carried over to the next round. This creates a bit of a push-your-luck style of mechanic. As you are rewarded for beating your opponent with the cheapest possible team. This is where the B1 Melee Droid unit is pure gold. You can line a whole row with them for six points. Now, this isn't going to win you a round on its own, as they are still extremely weak, but they give your other units room to breathe.

Six B1 Melee Droids and three Stormtroopers are better than one BX Droid and three Stormtroopers, even though they are worth the same amount of points. Sure, the BX Droid is more capable of doing actual damage, but they only take a few hits before they die, while that massive stack of B1s will give your Stormtroopers time to fire off countless volleys into enemy troops. Lower-cost troops, when used smartly, can give you a lot of bang for your buck, which means that you will be able to have more points available for the later rounds where you may need to have more expensive troops on the battlefield.

Here are a few excellent units that we would consider to be "budget" options...

  • The B1 Melee Droid is, as we already said, an incredible value. Their primary purpose is to stall your opponent. They are also the sole one-point unit in the game.
  • The Stormtrooper is your cheapest ranged unit. They aren't particularly accurate shots, but for two points you can fill an entire row. If you have a couple of decently strong units, this firing squad can completely overwhelm enemy units.
  • The Rawka costs five points, and when it comes to a melee unit, this is one of your most budget-friendly options. Groups of Rawkas are particularly good if you are looking for some effective early-game melee units.
  • The Sentry Droid is 10 points, so they aren't super cheap, but what you get from them is an extremely good bang for your buck. They can hang with more expensive units.

Explosions Are A Double-Edged SwordStar Wars Jedi Survive, Killing a Skriven with Rocket Troopers, Holotactics

In general, we think you are better off using an all-or-nothing approach with explosions. If you want stuff to blow up, put Rocket Troopers in your party and plan around that. The B2 droids, B1 Ranged droids, and Stormtrooper Commanders have explosives that they may or may not use. This makes them wildly unpredictable. Sure, that may mean that they use a super-clutch grenade and win you the battle, but it may also mean that they just happen to blow up your entire team.

That is the thing, explosions are full-on friendly fire. So, more than anything, you need to be extremely cautious with them. Our favorite approach for using Rocket Troopers is to line the front row with the budget-conscious B1 Melee Droids. That way, if they get caught in the crossfire, it isn't a big loss. If anything, they will help lock down a higher-value unit in combat that will then eat a rocket as a direct result. Perfect!

Never use troops that have explosive attacks when you are also using a Skriton (or any other slow-moving, expensive melee unit). That is a recipe for disaster!

The Randomness Element

Star Wars Jedi Survive, A close Holotactics battle

What you will find is that the strategies listed in this guide work nearly all of the time, but since you are not in direct control, there will be times when you just get painfully unlucky. You may also find that, on occasion, your troops just act ridiculously. Love it or hate it, this is a part of Holotactics. Thankfully, if you have the right team you will, typically, win.

Where To Find All The Holotactics Units

Star Wars Jedi Survivor, fighting the Droidka in the barraks

This is pretty simple, every enemy unit is going to be encountered in the story. Once you defeat them, you just scan them with BD-1. By the time you unlock Holottactics you will likely already have a healthy supply of troops. However, for the most powerful troops that you will lean on more often than not... You will unlock the Skriton and AT-ST early in the third chapter. Later on, in the same chapter, you will unlock the DT Sentry Droids, another strong unit type that makes for a worthy unit. Finally, the Droidka will be encountered in the fourth chapter on the Lucrehulk. In fact, once you have completed the Lucrehulk, you should have acquired every unit (if you have been diligently scanning each enemy you have defeated, that is).

Individual Strategies

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Playing Skoova in a match, Holotactics

Here we will give you all the goods on how to beat every opponent. We have tried to offer multiple strategies to accommodate players who are attempting to work through Holotactics earlier in the game and don't have access to all the best troops.

A single Bedlam Raider can beat both Scout Troopers if you want to bank some points, but it isn't a guaranteed win. Turgle's second (and final) round is pretty weak, so it really isn't necessary to bank points. So, go with a BX Droid, or if you don't have one of those, two Bedlam Raiders.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Beating Turgle's final team, Holotactics

In the second round, a DT Sentry (Hammer And Staff) is more than capable of taking out the entire lineup. And you will have two points left over to give them some fodder for support. If you are playing before you have the DT Sentry, put your strongest melee unit in back, and fill the rest of the spots with B1 units.

All you need to wipe Greez out effortlessly is to have the Droidka's unlocked. Greez isn't able to fight off a Droidka with either of his first phases. The same is largely true for the third phase as well, though you are better off using your extra points to crush Greez's final team with a Skriton, as the Security Droid will, occasionally, be able to get in on the Droidka and beat it.

This is another opponent that is best handled by the ever-powerful Droidka. Start by using a Droidka to clear them out in the first round. Then in the second round, pair a Droidka with B1 Droids (Melee).

For the final round, you are going to put out a Droidka with some Stormtroopers in the back row, while lining the front row with B1 Droids to distract your opponent's units. For a strategy that uses early-game troops, replace the Droidka with a whole row of Stormtroopers.

For the first round, put out Five Stormtroopers and five Melee B1 Droids. The fodder droids will keep the Sentry busy as your Stormtroopers shoot it to death. A single Skriton will be able to wipe these brutes off the board, but if you don't have one of those yet, you can also win this battle using a row of Stormtroopers in the back and a row of Scout Troopers in the front.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Merrin Final Round, Holotactics

In the next round, overwhelm the Skriton with a row of Rocket Launcher Troopers in the back and fodder in the front. Even a row of B1 Melee Droids will be enough, but if you have the points to splash out you can put a shield trooper out there with some better melee units to help give you Rocket Troops even more latitude.

This is a bit of a tough start, as the Rocket Launcher Troopers deal a lot of damage to, otherwise, quite strong units. Droidkas will do a pretty good job most times, but you will, on occasion, eat a rocket and die. Supporting them with a nimble BX Droid or two can be a big help. But it can all go to pot rather quickly.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Caij Final Round, Holotactics

In the next round, the Skriton alone will almost always win. We had a close call or two, but we also had a flawless victory. In the final battle, you can run a Skriton and support them with additional heavy hitters, or boost them with fodder. On their own, the Skriton will lose, but when supported by fodder they will assure you victory.

Where To Obtain Skoova

A lone Skriton will take care of the first round of enemies with ease. You can go with the lone Skriton again for the second round if you are feeling feisty, but you are rolling the dice; the Skriton can only take a single rocket without dying. However, a few Stormtroopers backing up the Skriton will make ensure your victory.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Taking out Skoova with early units, Holotactics

The third round is more of the same, a Skriton will do most of the work. One will potentially be enough, however, you can back the Skriton up with a few Stormtroopers to help secure the win. Finally, you are going to use the same play once again. Use a Skriton backed by ranged troops. If you were belligerent enough to beat Skoova with a single Skriton in each round, you will have enough points to back your Skriton up with a Droidka as well as additional fodder troops. However, no matter what, if you fill the back row with your best ranged units (ideally who don't have explosives), you will be victorious.

If you are trying to win this fight before you have access to the Skriton, you can instead use Rawkas. They are a pretty great substitute, and they are available the second you land on Koboh. Three Rawkas with a few B1 Melee Droids to help distract your enemies are actually quite capable of dealing with the first three phases. Keep banking those points, and then in the final round make sure you line the back row with your best ranged troops to help support those Rawkas.

Where To Obtain T-1N8

We don't have enough points to splash out on our old pal the Skriton in the first round, so, instead, we're going to highlight one of the other heavy hitters: the DT Sentry (Hammer And Staff). One of these DT Sentries will be capable of beating a Gorocco pretty consistently. Next, we're fighting a Bilemaw as well as another Gorocco. So, we are doubling up on the DT Sentry (Hammer And Staff) and taking two of them. They will almost always win.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Sentri fighting the Gorocco, Holotactics

On the third round, you are going to have to deal with two Sutaban Alphas and a Droidka. It is time for the big boy. Bring out the Skriton. Now, this is a tough fight for it to win alone, so you are going to want to give it some ranged support. You can make do with three Stormtroopers.

In the final round, you are going to be dealing with Bramliks, Rawkas, and a Smasher. So, you want to light them up with ranged units. A strong team to bring in is a DT Sentry (Hammer And Missiles) with two Droidkas and Stormtroopers. The Sentry will distract them, while the Droidkas punch holes through them from afar. If you were conservative with your points, you can even put down a Skriton to defend your Droidka instead of the Sentry. Which is messed up.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, Killing the Gorocco with Rawkas, Holotactics

If you are trying to win this fight before you have access to the DT Sentry, you can use Rawkas instead. Two Rawkas will take out the Gorocco, five will be more than enough to win you the second round (though if you are feeling risky, four will work about half of the time), and in the third round, you can fill the arena with seven Rawkas to finish off your opponents. For the final round, ditch the Rawkas and instead have (at least) three Heavy Assault Troopers in the back, with a full first row of the best melee units your money can buy.

Tulli Will Become Available Once You Beat All The Other Opponents

The first round is easily the hardest to complete. If you are looking to do it on a budget, you can use the Purge Trooper Commander supported by an armada of B1 Droids. However, you are really banking on the Stormtrooper commanders tossing grenades at your droids, said grenades getting caught on them, and the resulting explosion taking out the Shield Troopers. Otherwise, you can, of course, fall back on the Skriton, but you aren’t going to bank many points that way.

Star Wars Jedi Survive, A squad of Droidka's gun down an ATST, Holotactics

As for the second phase, one Skriton can get the job done, but you will need to be concerned about the grenades, get unlucky and this will be a defeat. Instead, you should pair a Droidka with the Skriton and clear this hurdle easily. The next two phases are easy as pie. Just use a Skriton paired with a Droidka. In the final round, add a second Droidka and cash in your remaining points for your best ranged units.

Now, here is the tough part… trying to beat Tulli without the Skriton and the Droidka units. Look, we tried running a dozen different team formations, and by using a combination of Rocket Troopers, Shield Troopers, and B1 Droid fodder, we have a few pretty close results. But it all ends up relying heavily on luck. You just won’t have a great answer to some of Tulli’s teams if you are exclusively focused on using early-game units. We recommend waiting until you have cleared the fourth chapter, and you have all the best units.
