One of the benefits of telling stories a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away is the ability to fill it with beings and creatures that don't exist in the real world. Star Wars does that with tremendous success, and it appears to have carried on its winning streak in Jedi: Survivor. The game launched today and a large chunk of those who have and plan to play it are already mildly obsessed with a frog man named Turgle. While many of us will likely hop on the Turgle bandwagon in the coming days and weeks, the quirky new Star Wars character shot to fame before Jedi: Survivor had even launched thanks to Prima Games' Jesse Vitelli. Why do what the writers of the mostly negative reviews for Jedi: Survivor on Steam have done and write about the various patches the new game already needs when you can tell the world there's a delightful little frog man waiting for you if you just knuckle down and play the game?RELATED: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Review - This Is Only Kind Of The WayTurgle has been described as a frog man by Vitelli and the numerous Star Wars fans alerted to the new character's presence for a very simple reason. He looks like a frog crossed with a man. Walking around on two legs like a person, but having the appearance of a frog, Cal is apparently introduced to Turgle when the talking amphibian is thrown through the saloon doors of a local watering hole. No spoilers here for the future and fate of Turgle, but he and Cal appear to become firm friends.

Turgle has quickly joined a list of characters Star Wars creators have clearly added to its universe to generate chatter and sell merch. As someone with a three-year-old at home, I can confirm the only thing Star Wars that toddlers care about is Grogu. Before Grogu there was Babu Frik, and before Babu Frik there were Ewoks. Plus somewhere in between there was Jar-Jar Binks. Yeah, sometimes even Star Wars whiffs it when trying to create well-loved and marketable characters.

By now, many of you will be hours into Jedi: Survivor, discovering which characters have returned and which ones haven't. The fear that Greez and Merrin would not be back for the sequel was quelled when the pair were shown in one of the final trailers for the game. New character Rayvis also appears to have a big role to play, reintroducing a little-known race called the Gen'dai to the Star Wars timeline.
