During Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic's main quest, you will find yourself on the sand planet Tatooine from the movies. There you will need to find the Star Forge map piece, which can be found in the Eastern Dune Sea. When you try to go there at first though, you will get a message that prevents you from doing so, as you have to know the proper path.

To know how to get to the Eastern Dune Sea, you must first acquire a map. Here's what you need to do in order to find that map and start making your way through the desert.

How To Get To The Eastern Dune Sea

Iziz asks for your help in rescuing his people

As previously stated, you need a map that shows you a proper way of getting to the Eastern Dune Sea where Tatooine's star map is located. Only one person on Tatooine has the map - a Jawa named Iziz.

Iziz can be found by the gate that leads into the main Dune Sea area inside of Anchorhead. Talk to him and he'll explain that the Sand People have kidnapped some of his fellow Jawa brethren and are holding them prisoner in their camp. In order to get the map from him, you have to save the Jawas at the camp.

If you haven't already, go and talk to the Czerka Corporation representative at their office - she should give you a hunting pass to let you leave Anchorhead and explore Tatooine freely.

Get HK-47

The Tatooine droid shop, where HK-47 can be purchased

Unfortunately for you, your character has no knowledge of the Sand People's language so you need a droid that does. That droid being HK-47, an assassin droid worth having as a party member even if you don't plan on making peace with the Sand People.

HK-47 can be purchased from the droid shop in the northeastern part of Anchorhead. Go inside and talk to the alien owner about purchasing HK-47. He will offer you the price of 5,000 credits for the droid, but can be persuaded to lower it to 4,000 or even 3,000 if you persuade him again. If you don't have enough, you can sell the owner stuff you aren't using or race bonds you've acquired from swoop bike racing.

Regardless of how you purchase HK-47, be sure to put him in your party before you leave Anchorhead.

Heading To The Sand People Camp

The entrance to the Sand People Enclave/camp, note the turrets

The entrance to the Sand People camp is in the southeastern-most corner of the main sand dune area. Along the way, you can encounter hostile Sand People who randomly show up. When you get to the entrance to the camp, there will be Sand People guarding it. You can kill them, but if you're trying for a light-sided path, loot the bodies of Sand People you've encountered already for a disguise.

Wearing the Sand People armor will no longer have the Sand People attack you randomly. Note that if you have any non-droid party members in the group, you'll need a disguise for them too. Wookies can't equip the armor so don't bring Zaalbar with you to the camp.

With your disguise in hand, you can now make your way over to the Sand People camp.

Rescuing The Jawas In The Sand People Camp

A captured Jawa asks you to rescue them

There are two different ways you can rescue the Jawas depending on if you want to take a violent or peaceful approach with them.

The Violent Way

Sand People ready for a fight

The Sand People fight with both turrets and melee weapons so be sure you bring some energy shields for extra protection and medpacks for healing if you plan on killing them all. Once in the camp, the Jawas can be found in the eastern part of the camp. Open the door and talk to the Jawa closest to the door and let them know they're free to go.

The Peaceful Way

Talking to the Sand People Chieftan

Wear the Sand People disguise into the camp and once you enter it, a guard will notice you're not one of them. They'll then seize your clothes and take you to the Sand People Chieftan. You can tell him you come in peace and that you want their attacks on the local caravans to stop.

He'll agree to this if you can give them some moisture vaporators so they have a supply of water.

After talking with him, you will be escorted out of the camp and back to the area outside of it, where the Sand People will no longer be hostile, even without disguises. The moisture vaporators can be purchased off of Greeta Holda in the Czerka Corp. office in Anchorhead. Ask if he has any and he will sell them to you for 400 credits. This can be reduced to 200 credits if you a high enough persuade skill.

Once you have the moisture vaporators, return to the camp and talk to the Chieftan. He will accept the vaporators and promises to stop the attacks on the caravans. Now you're given free reign to explore the camp but don't loot any of the boxes, as this will make all the Sand People hostile.

Head over to the Jawas and tell them you'll talk to the Chieftan about their release. The Chieftan agrees to release them as he has no further need for their work anymore.

Returning To Iziz And Getting The Map

Regardless of your approach, return to Anchorhead and inform Iziz of your success. He will thank you and if you talk to him again, you can ask for the map which he'll gladly give you.

Return to the Eastern Dune Sea entrance where you will now know how to get the Eastern Dune Sea yourself and be one step closer to retrieving the Star Map piece.
