Bryce Dallas Howard confirmed this week that she'll voice Yaddle in Tales of the Jedi. Star Wars fans have been eagerly awaiting to hear what Howard's Yaddle will sound like so they can compare it to Yoda's voice and, well, it's probably not what you were expecting.Don't worry, this isn't a Super Mario situation. Howard didn't promise us something unlike anything we have ever heard before, as her Jurassic World co-star Chris Pratt did, and then just spoke in her regular voice. Howard didn't promise anything, but Yaddle doesn't talk like Yoda at all. She just speaks normally, suggesting Yoda speaks in riddles for the fun of it and to mess with people.The first clip of Yaddle speaking in Tales of the Jedi was shared by someone called Luke on Twitter who labels Yoda a “goofy little goblin” for speaking the way that he has for almost five decades of Star Wars content. Someone in the replies admitted hearing Yaddle has allowed them to breathe a sigh of relief, confirming that their Yoda impressions haven't been mocking an entire species all this time and they've just been mimicking one weird little guy.
This is Star Wars so of course, there are already people trying to explain what is going on here. Some fans believe Yoda is an older member of his and Yaddle's species and is simply speaking in a way that younger people on his planet have left in the past. As Isaac Evilam puts it on Twitter, “Yoda’s just a space boomer refusing to update how he speaks.”
Despite the sheer number of movies and shows in the Star Wars universe, and Yoda being a part of it since the very beginning, very little is known about his species. Fans haven't even been told what it's called, and Yaddle's introduction will likely build on that as Grogu did when the little one was welcomed into the Star Wars family via The Mandalorian. Good to know he won't talk like Yoda when he eventually learns how to speak.
