Stardew Valley isn't the kind of game that holds your hand. It loves to hide secrets in every corner of the world for the player to find. It seldom holds their hand to guide the farmer from one plot point to the next. It's true to its origins; players are meant to do whatever they want and find joy in the journey, not the conclusion.

Abigail is the daughter of Pelican Town's shopkeeper, Pierre, and his wife Caroline. She's also one of the bachelorettes available for the player to marry if they so choose. More so than some other NPCs, Abigail has a few hidden details to discover if the player does some snooping. Among these 10, everyone is bound to learn something new about this young woman.

10 Her Paternity

Abigail is a popular character among the game's fans, so this little mystery is all over the internet and it's among the first that new players learn; nevertheless, it's worth including anyway.

As the farmer gets to know the people who live in the valley, they begin to untangle their web of relationships and secrets. When the gamer is close enough with the Wizard, he'll reveal that he suspects one of the villagers is his daughter, but that he can't be sure. Suddenly, dialogue from Pierre, Abigail, and Caroline makes them suspect that Abigail is actually the Wizard's daughter.

9 Fans Estimate That She's 5'0"

Stardew Valley fans are nothing if not dedicated. One Redditor, asparagas, took it upon themself to create a height-chart for the game's main characters, using their relative pixel measurements as a starting point.

Based on these estimates, Abigail is surprisingly short! She stands at only 5'0", a few inches below the average height of American women (5'4"). The bow in her character sprite probably helps make her look a little less out of place, standing next to other NPCs.

8 On Wednesdays She Studies

It's a (frustrating) fact that, for a large chunk of Stardew Valley's gameplay, Pierre's shop is closed on Wednesdays. Many disappointed farmers, eager to woo Abigail and whisk her away to their home, have turned away and saved that amethyst for another day. However, they needn't give up so soon!

Abigail actually leaves the store on Wednesdays to visit the Museum, where she spends her time reading books in the library. It's a small detail, but most players take a while to notice since you'd have to be in just the right place at just the right time.

7 She Doesn't Dye Her Hair

Abigail's beautiful violet hair is an iconic part of her character. There are some indications that she's dyed it this color: for example, she can tell the player she's thinking about dyeing it "again," and asks them what color they think would look best.

However, if the player marries her, they eventually run into a dialogue line that reveals that Abigail hasn't dyed her hair in years – the purple has just never faded. Needless to say, the fans who believe the Wizard is her father hold this quote up like the Holy Grail.

6 She Dislikes Blackberries But Loves Blackberry Cobbler

If the player is patient enough to test every gift on every villager, they may eventually discover that Abigail dislikes receiving blackberries as a gift. Alone, it's not an unreasonable detail; everyone has a few foods they can't stand.

However, it's puzzling then that the Blackberry Cobbler is on her loved gifts list. Abigail doesn't just like Blackberry Cobbler – she loves it. It's right up there with amethysts and pumpkins. Perhaps sugar solves everything...?

5 Winning The Drawing Contest

Abigail has a particular dialogue prompt in which she asks the player to choose between two drawings she's made. One is of an orc brandishing a battleax, and the other is a jungle island featuring a fearsome tiger. The player can choose one, or say that they don't like either of them.

It may seem like a one-off question, but if the farmer is careful to return to Abigail the next day, she admits that she entered the drawing that they picked (if they did pick one) into a competition – and won first place!

4 The Case Of The Disappearing Bow

Stardew Valley Abigail Evolution

After a while of staring at the same sprite and portrait for a while, players might notice that Abigail's sprite features a little blue bow, but her portrait doesn't have one. It's a minor detail, but it may have been inspired by original portraits for Abigail.

They showed the young woman with blue hair, not purple, and with a small pink bow holding her hair back. The similarities are remarkable, so it's possible that the bow just didn't fit into the imagined style of the portrait, but helped mark out Abigail's sprite a bit better.

3 Her Secret Love Of The Beach

Stardew Valley Abigail on Ginger Island

One of the questions that Abigail asks the farmer is about where they would go if they suddenly won a free vacation. The player can choose the beach, a dark cave, an old forest, or the mall. If they select the beach, Abigail responds that she thinks that trip would "get old fast."

Despite this little comment, Abigail is actually seen quite often on Ginger Island, once it's unlocked. Ginger Island is a new location that was introduced in the 1.5 update to Stardew Valley. Perhaps she was simply trying to hide her love of a "basic" choice, or maybe she just came around on the idea – or it could be that any chance to get away from her family was worth taking.

2 Chrono Cameo

There are lots to see in Abigail's bedroom, including (but not limited to) the guinea pig cage, the skull on her bookshelf, the ouija board, and the video game console that looks suspiciously like a Super Nintendo. However, the poster hanging above her TV has drawn particular attention.

Some fans have speculated that it's Link from The Legend of Zelda, but it's actually meant to be Crono, from the Super Nintendo game Chrono Trigger. The bright red hair and blue outfit were the biggest tip-offs.

1 She's Attached To Her Flute

Abigail dearly loves to play the flute. In any season, the player can find her in the mountains under a tree, playing a tune. If she marries the farmer and moves in, the space in the back will be her dedicated stage, where she'll be found practicing.

It's notable then that she dislikes receiving the Bone Flute (an artifact) as a gift. One would think that a prehistoric bone carved into an instrument would fascinate her, but perhaps she's simply attached to the flute she's been playing on for all this time.
