Stardew Valley is not a game that relies heavily on quest completion. There are several quests that a player can complete for various rewards and unlockables, but the players focus their time and energy elsewhere. However, the quests that do exist can have some amazing rewards, like unlocking new mechanics or areas.

With that said, there are also a few quests that seem rather pointless or only function to teach you how to do basic things, somewhat like a tutorial section. Here are some of the better quests that you'll want to complete as soon as possible, and some that are less useful.

10 Worst - Meet the Wizard

There aren't many truly terrible quests in Stardew Valley. The less useful quests on this list are simply not as good or fun to complete as the best on the list. Meet the Wizard is a good example of this. The quest isn't necessarily bad, but it's not one you'd look forward to.

This quest allows the player to begin working on the community center bundles. This is an important, central aspect of the game. But making you complete a quest before you can start on it seems tedious, especially if you've played Stardew before.

9 Best - Skull Key

Many players look forward to the day they can start tackling the Skull Cavern Mines. Here, you'll find precious Iridium ore, which is used for a variety of important purposes, like upgrading your tools. You'll also have a much better chance of finding other rare items and more useful stuff than in the regular mines.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to enter the cavern until you find the skull key in the quest by the same name. You'll find this key at the bottom of the regular mines, which is a fun challenge and makes it seem like you've accomplished something, along with a great reward.

8 Worst - Joja Cola Help Wanted Quest

Throughout your time in the valley, you may notice that there is a notice board outside Pierre's store. Here, you'll often find notes from the other villagers asking for you to bring them an item. If you do, you'll be rewarded with some gold and a few friendship points with that person.

While the friendship points are nice, you'll only receive 75 gold for bringing someone a Joja Cola when they ask for it. Considering this is the cost of a Joja Cola, you'll be making zero profit. You can, of course, find Joja Cola elsewhere for free, but it just seems like a waste of time.

7 Best - Winter Mystery

While exploring the mines, the valley, and the skull cavern, you'll come across these strange Secret Notes. These notes have a variety of rewards or informational messages once read. They can direct you to treasure, new quests, and even give information on the other villagers.

In order to find and read these notes, you'll need a Magnifying Glass. You can find this by completing the quest A Winter Mystery, which is triggered by entering the bus stop via the farm before 4 p.m. during the winter.

6 Worst - Fish Casserole

Everything surrounding Jodi and her family can be uncomfortable, from her husband Kent yelling at her for making popcorn, to Vincent's weird attachment issues with Penny, Sam's insistence on having intercourse while his mother is there, and Jodi's seeming depression. It's sometimes a little strange to be chatting with these family members about each other, too.

This is why the Fish Casserole quests is a bit uncomfortable. Jodi asks you to bring a Largemouth Bass over for dinner. Ignoring the fact that it's kind of rude to invite someone for dinner and ask them to bring the food, it's upsetting to see Sam's reluctance to helping her cook and knowing about all the other issues in the family.

5 Best - Item Delivery/Help Wanted Quests

While the Joja Cola Help Wanted quest is kind of a waste of time in many situations, the regular Help Wanted quests are actually great. The villager who posted the note will request a certain item, and when you bring it to them you'll receive 150 friendship points and triple the item's value.

This is an easy way to level up your friendship with the villagers. But, it also serves as a good way to earn more money for an item than you would end up shipping anyway.

4 Worst - Mine Quests

mine

As mentioned, there are a few tutorial quests that don't give any reward but function as a method of teaching the player how the game works. One example of this is a trio of quests that encourage exploration of the mines: Explore the Mine, Deeper in the Mine, and To the Bottom?

None of these offer any reward except a tutorial on how the mines work. At the bottom of the mines, you'll find the skull key, which is somewhat of a reward. But, these quests are not worth much else.

3 Best - Cryptic Note

Speaking of reaching the bottom of the mines — those quests may not have a ton of reward for their completion, but they are fun to complete as the mines are a dangerous chasm of combat and reward. It's thrilling! Naturally, the Skull Cavern increases this thrill level with a higher difficulty.

This is what makes the grind to complete the quest Cryptic Note so much fun. In this quest, you'll have to reach floor 100 in Skull Cavern. It's difficult and takes a ton of practice and preparation. Once you reach it, Mister Qi will be there to reward you with an item that increases your max health. He'll also be more impressed if you reach him without crafting staircases, so that's something to consider.

2 Worst - Mysterious Qi

If you like fetch quests that make you bring random items to random locations for seemingly no reason, you'll love The Mysterious Qi. In this quest, the farmer will be tasked with placing certain objects in places provided by some strange notes. They're presumably written by Mister Qi, who will give you access to the Casino in the desert upon completion.

The Casino is a fun little addition to the game and can help earn the player some money, situationally. All in all, though, it's not a necessary area for you to spend a lot of time in, and the long, tedious quests associated with unlocking it aren't worth it in the end.

1 Best - Goblin Problem

The quest Goblin Problem is a vital one, as it unlocks a ton of new rewards for the player. During it, there is a goblin guarding the Witch's Hut. He'll move if the player gives him a Void Mayonnaise as a gift.

Now that you have access to the Hut, you'll be able to find the missing Magic Ink that the wizard requested. Give it to him, and he'll give you access to the Wizard Buildings, which include Junimo Huts, the three teleporting obelisks, and the Golden Clock. Furthermore, you can now use the dark shrines in the Witch's Hut, too. Easy quest, great rewards.
