Cinder shards are a gem-like material that is an essential item when using the Volcano Forge. In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about cinder shards, including where to farm them, and what you can do with them. First, let's take a look at the best farming methods for cinder shards.

Cinder shards are found within the Volcano dungeon of Ginger Island from the following monsters.

  • Magma Sprite
  • Magma Sparker
  • Magma Duggy
  • False Magma Cap

These monsters all have around a 50 percent chance of dropping between one and two cinder shards.

Additionally, you can mine cinder shards from nodes found within the Volcano dungeon. Cinder shard nodes look like a rock with cinder shard pieces poking out.

In general, farming for cinder shards will take a while, but there are a few tips that can help you find this material more efficiently. Below, you can take a look at some tips for farming cinder shards.

Increased Luck

Every day, you will have a certain amount of luck. This will influence several aspects of the game, including mining, foraging, and playing Casino games. Luck will increase the number of nodes that you can find, as well as the number of materials that drop from mining a node.

With better luck, you have a greater chance of finding more cinder shards from nodes found within the Volcano dungeon. For more information, be sure to check out our full guide on luck, including what it affects, and how you can increase it.

Burglar's Ring

The Burglar's Ring is an item that increases your chances of finding monster loot. With the ring equipped, monsters will drop twice as much loot. This is incredibly helpful if you choose to farm for cinder shards by slaying monsters in the Volcano dungeon.

To get this ring, you will need to complete the Monster Eradication Goal of killing 500 Dust Sprites. Once this goal has been completed, Gil will reward you with the ring. Additionally, Marlon will begin to sell this ring for 20,000g.

Stingrays In A Fish Pond

A great way to passively gain cinder shards is by raising Stingrays in a fish pond. With at least seven Stingrays in a fish pond, they have around a seven to ten percent daily chance to produce two to five cinder shards.

Stingrays are a rare fish only found within the star-shaped pond in the Pirate Cove. This fish will be available to catch all year long in any type of weather. This isn't the quickest way to farm cinder shards, but with a few stingray fish ponds set up, you can passively gain this resource.

Crafting

Stardew Valley - Player standing with a bunch of Ostriches

Cinder shards are only used in the crafting of one recipe; the Ostrich Incubator. This item allows you to incubate ostrich eggs and hatch them into baby ostriches. To craft this item, you will need the following materials.

  • 50 Bone Fragments
  • 50 Hardwood
  • 20 Cinder Shards

To unlock the Ostrich Incubator, you will need to complete the fossil collection for Professor Snail in the Island Field Office. Once the collection is complete, you can craft the incubator.

Lastly, you can combine one cinder shard and one piece of cloth at a sewing machine to make a black pair of sunglasses.

That's all there is to know about cinder shards. Be sure to save any shards that you find while exploring the Volcano dungeon.
