Stardew Valley is set to receive its first big new content patch, according to the game’s creator.

It’s been nearly two years since the release of runaway indie smash Stardew Valley, and while it’s been receiving regular patches along the way, this latest update is set to bring with it a long called for addition: multiplayer.

Built in the tradition of farming simulator classic Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley is the indie game from 2016 that nobody could put down because it was so much more than just another farming simulator. In Stardew Valley, there’s enough relationship dynamics that you could call it a dating sim, there’s enough combat and quests that you could call it an action RPG, and enough mining and farming that you could still call it a resource gathering click game and have all three statements be accurate.

Stardew Valley took home the Golden Joystick Award for best breakthrough hit from a new developer, as well as the Best Simulation Game award from the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers. It sold one million units in the first three months and has over 3.5 million in total sales according to Steamspy.

Born on the PC, it’s since been ported to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation Vita.

The biggest complaint people have about Stardew Valley is that they simply can’t put it down. “Just one more day” is the common refrain of Stardew players caught in its vice-like grip.

However, it’s been missing something that the developer, Eric Boone, wanted from day one— multiplayer. That may soon change, according to several tweets from Boone:

“I'm finished with the new content and have shifted all my attention to getting multiplayer ready,” reads one of Boone’s tweets to a chorus of eager responses on Twitter.

Boone, who goes by the online alias ConcernedApe, also shared a brief preview of what to expect in the latest update in a tweet last December.

There’s still no hard date on when the update is set to release, but it’s a certainty everyone’s farm is eagerly awaiting a visit from its neighbors.
