Emily is one of the more unique characters in Stardew Valley. She is the polar opposite of her sister Haley and helps take care of their home. She seems to be one of the younger singles in town and is happy to meet the player when they move in. Dating Emily is generally easy as many of her favorite gifts can be found from the beginning of the game.

Players who are hoping to romance her should expect to spend quite some time in the mines scouring for gems. Luckily, she has a pretty easy schedule to follow, and befriending her will also unlock the ability to make new outfits and dye them to your favorite colors.

Emily's schedule is much less complicated than some of the other romanceable characters in the game. It's important to note that she does work at the local saloon, so you will need to keep in mind her work schedule when planning to find her for the day.

Gifting to Emily

Many of the loves that Emily wants comes from the mines, but players won't have to go to deeper floors to find them. Her dislikes and hates are a bit strange, though, as they all contain food recipes that are usually popular with other villagers. Be extra careful not to give Emily any recipes that are on her hated list.

To date an NPC in Stardew Valley, you need to improve your friendship level with them. It's represented by the number of hearts next to their name in the Social menu. So, to date Emily as quickly as possible, make sure you're talking to her at least once every day and giving her gifts twice a week!

Eight Hearts

Stardew Valley - Emily 8 heart event

You will receive a letter in the mail after reaching eight hearts with Emily. To activate the event, go to Mayor Lewis's house. This will trigger a fashion show that involves Abigail, Shane, Lewis, Clint, and Robin dressing up in fun outfits.

How To Start Dating Emily

stardew valley - buying a bouquet from pierre

Once you've reached 8 hearts of friendship with Emily, you can start to date her. Pierre will send you a letter in the mail to let you know that you can purchase a Bouquet from him for 200g!

Gift this Bouquet to Emily to let her know that you're interested. She'll accept your offer as long as nothing has caused her friendship level to go below 8 hearts. At this point, you'll unlock the ability to reach 10 hearts of friendship with her and her title in the Social menu will change to "Girlfriend."

Ten Hearts

Stardew Valley - Emily 10 heart event

At ten hearts, another letter will arrive from Emily instructing you to come to the Secret Woods. The woods are blocked by a large log that must be destroyed before the area can be accessed. The event will trigger after 10 p.m., and it consists of you spending the night with Emily and camping in the woods.

Marrying Emily

You can marry Emily (and any NPC) once you reach 10 hearts of friendship! Mayor Lewis has clearly been stalking you or something, because he sends you a letter letting you know that he's noticed how close with the townspeople you're becoming. He tells you that, in Stardew Valley, people propose by giving their partner a special necklace: a Mermaid's Pendant.

To get the Mermaid Pendant, make sure you are still at 10 hearts with Emily, that you've upgraded the farmhouse at least once, and that you've repaired that broken wooden bridge on the beach. Then, on a rainy day, go to the east side of the beach and look for the Old Mariner. He's an NPC who will sell you the Mermaid's Pendant for 5,000g.

Then, all you need to do is gift the Mermaid's Pendant to Emily! You'll have a beautiful wedding in the town square three days after you propose (or four days, if there's an event happening on the day you're supposed to get married).

You get transported back to the farm after the wedding, all set up in marital bliss. Emily will have permanently moved in with you and added her own unique spousal room to the right-hand side of the house. Plus, there are some of her meditation crystals outside.

Marriage Schedule

When spouses move in with you after the wedding, they spend their time...

  • Watering crops
  • Feeding animals
  • Watering the animal bowl
  • Repairing broken fences
  • Giving you gifts
  • Decorating the house
  • In their unique outside area
  • In their unique indoor room

However, all spouses leave the farm a couple of days out of the week. For Emily, those days are Monday and Friday:

Emily's Fourteen Hearts Cutscene

Stardew Valley - Emily 14 heart event

All of the marriage candidates in Stardew Valley have a special 14-heart event that you can see after marrying them. In Emily's case, once you reach 14 hearts of friendship with her she will approach you outside the farmhouse and ask you for 200 pieces of fiber.

Once you've brought the fiber to Emily, wait 3 days and then enter the farmhouse any time between 8 pm and midnight. Emily will surprise you with a brand-new outfit!
