Within Stardew Valley, there are tons of unique areas for you to explore. Some of these will be unlocked when you start the game, while others take some time. One of the unlockable areas you will encounter is the Sewers.

This green-tinted area runs underneath Pelican Town, offering an NPC who sells new goods, a fishing area, and is important for a post-game quest. This guide is going to go over how to unlock the Sewers, as well as everything you need to know about the area.

Requirements To Unlock The Sewers In Stardew Valley

To unlock the Sewers, you will need to donate at least 60 items to the Museum. The Museum sits on the far right edge of town, right under the blacksmith where you can find Clint.

Here, you will be able to donate different artifacts and minerals. These items can be found through mining, cracking open geodes, or from artifact spots on the ground.

This may sound like a lot of items, but as you are first making your way to the bottom of the mines, you will discover a wide range of artifacts and minerals. Make sure to keep every geode you find so Clint can crack them open as well. These are great sources for items to donate to the museum.

After you have donated 60 items, you will receive the Rusty Key. With this key, you will be immediately able to enter the Sewers.

The Location Of Pelican Town's Sewers

Now, it's time to find the Sewers. There are two different entrances to this area. The first entrance is in the center of town, to the left of the graveyard and the Mayor's Mansion. You will see a little fenced-off area with the square cover of the sewers. Walk up to the cover and enter the Sewers here.

The Sewers can also be entered from the south end of the Cindersap Forest. Starting from Marnie's Ranch, head south. You will come to the river's edge, and see a wooden bridge to your right. Follow the bridge across a little island and to the other side of the river. From here, continue south until you come to the Sewer grate. If you go down the staircase, you will be able to enter the Sewers from here.

Both of these entrances connect within the Sewers area. This means that if you are in town and need to quickly get to the south end of Cindersap Forest, you can take the Sewers shortcut.

Fishing In The Sewers

Although the water in the Sewers is quite gross, you can fish here. Below, you can check out the potential catches from fishing in the Sewers.

  • Mutant Carp

  • Green Algae
  • White Algae
  • Trash

Fishing isn't the most exciting thing to do in the Sewers, but this is the only location where you can find the Mutant Carp, one of five Legendary Fish in the game. For more information on fishing, check out this guide.

Krobus The Shadow Merchant

On the right side of the Sewers, you will find Krobus. This is a friendly monster who spends all of his time in the Sewers. Krobus is a shadow person, similar to the other shadow people found in the mines. Occasionally, Krobus will refer to these monsters as his friends, but he is currently the only shadow person that you are able to interact with.

Krobus is a bit on the shy side, but he offers a variety of goods. Check out a full list of everything that Krobus sells below.

This requires the Void Ghost Pendant. For more information, check out this complete guide on becoming roommates with Krobus.

The Mutant Bug Lair

The Mutant Bug Lair is in the upper lefthand corner of the Sewers. You will see a shallow stream of green water flowing through the entrance.

This area is inaccessible until you begin the quest Dark Talisman. For this quest, you will need to enter the Mutant Bug Lair and retrieve the Dark Talisman. Doing this will begin The Goblin Problem quest.

Other than this, there isn't much to do inside the Mutant Bug Lair. There are swarms of bugs that will drop meat, which you can craft into bait. Additionally, you can find the Slimejack fish in this area. The Slimejack is only found in this area. It is available all day, any time of the year.

This fish is a bit difficult to successfully catch; as while you are fishing, bugs in the area will attack you.

The Statue Of Uncertainty

Lastly, we have the Statue of Uncertainty. This is a statue that allows you to change your profession.

As you level up different skills in Stardew Valley, you will be able to choose between different professions. Sometimes, you may regret choosing a certain profession though. Fortunately, you can pay 10,000g to change your profession at this statue.

Any bonus you have associated with a profession will disappear the following day. This means that if you change professions after shipping items with a bonus, you will still receive it. Additionally, you can change your profession again if you are unhappy with your choices.

That's all there is to know about the Sewers! Next, be sure to check out our complete guide on everything there is to know about Ginger Island.
