When mining in Stardew Valley, you will come across a wide variety of different monster loot. After a long day mining, you may have more loot than you know what to do with, but think twice before you sell it! Loot such as void essences has several uses that will benefit you.
In this guide, we are going to go over how to get void essence, as well as what to do with it. First, let's go over what exactly void essence is.
What Is Void Essence?
Void essence is a type of monster loot, said to be 'quivering with dark energy'. This item will only sell for 50g, but has several uses, including various quests, crafting, and tailoring. Let's take a look at the uses for void essence.
Void Essence Uses
Crafting
There are two recipes that require a single bit of void essence. You will need one unit of void essence, along with four gold ore and one unit of solar essence to create the mega bomb, the recipe for which is unlocked at Mining Level 8. The mega bomb will create massive explosions, perfect for clearing out floors of the mines.
You will also need void essence to craft the Iridium Band. In total, this item requires five iridium bars, 50 units of solar essence, and 50 units of void essence. The Iridium Band will glow, attract items, and increase your attack damage. You'll learn this recipe at Combat Level 9.
Gifting
This is not a popular gift. Almost everyone dislikes it, with two exceptions. The Dwarf is neutral toward it when gifted some, while the Wizard loves it.
Quests
On Winter 12, you will receive the "A Dark Reagent" quest by mail from the Wizard. This quest requires you to bring the Wizard a unit of void essence in exchange for 1,000g and one friendship heart.
To complete the Adventurer's Bundle in the Boiler Room of the Community Center, you will also have the option to donate one unit of void essence.
Tailoring
Lastly, void essence can be used in tailoring. Combining the void essence with one cloth will result in the Arcane Shirt. This shirt looks similar to the outfit that the Wizard wears.
Where To Find A Void Essence
Now that we know all about the uses of void essence, let's take a look at where to find them. Since void essence is monster loot, you can find it while exploring the Mines or Skull Cavern. Below, you can find a full list of all monsters void essence will drop from, as well as their location.

There are a few additional ways to acquire void essence as well. An easy method to get void essence is to purchase it from Krobus, who resides in the Sewers. Every day, Krobus sell 10 units of void essence for 100g each. This is a quick way to stock up on the item.
Finally, you will be able to get void essence if you have at least eight Void Salmon in a fish pond. With eight fish in the pond, you will have a 6% chance to get between 5 to 10 units of void essence per day. This will increase to 7% if you have at least 9 fish in the pond.
Overall, the easiest way to get void essence is through combat. Shadow enemies have a 75% chance to drop the item and are fairly easy to defeat.
