Stardew Valley has a wide range of lovable NPCs currently living in Pelican Town. Penny is a popular woman due to the fact that she is a lovable bookworm and helps to educate the younger kids in town. Despite her not-so-great home life, she works hard to get along with her mother, Pam, and does her best to take care of her home.

These are all excellent qualities that draw many farmers in. While Penny isn't an expensive date, most farmers won't be able to get ahold of any of her loves until at least halfway through their first Summer season. Here, you can learn how to fully date and marry Penny.

Penny's Schedule

Penny is pretty active in comparison to the other marriage candidates. She does move around town a lot during the day, and this can get a bit confusing if you are trying to find her during afternoon runs to town.

Below, you can check out her daily schedule for every season, as well as any deviations that can occur.

The Best Places To Find Penny

As you can see, Penny is quite active and has a lot of deviations in her schedule. If you are still in the first Spring of the game, there are a few places where she is usually found.

If it's Monday, Thursday, or Sunday, she will be either near the tree near the Graveyard, or sitting outside the Saloon. If it's any other day besides Saturday, she will be in the Museum most of the day.

When in doubt, check the Museum for Penny, especially if it's a weekday. If you are an early bird, you can also wait outside her trailer in the morning. She will usually leave around 8 am to 9 am, but the trailer will unlock for you to enter at 9 am.

Gifting to Penny

In Stardew Valley, you pursue a romanceable NPC by increasing your friendship level with them. It's represented by a series of hearts in the Social tab. To improve your friendship level with Penny, be sure to talk to her every day and give her gifts twice a week!

The Best Gifts To Give

Most of Penny's loves won't be available until at least one full season in-game. Luckily though, both of her likes come from foraging in Spring. Be sure to collect all the Dandelions and Leeks that you see. You can immediately give these to Penny, as well as stock them up for future gifts.

Dating Penny

Here, you can check out all of Penny's cutscenes, as well as how to trigger them. Be sure to choose your answers carefully, as some can result in massive friendship point subtractions.

Once you've reached eight hearts with Penny, you'll get a letter from Pierre saying that he's selling something new in his shop: a Bouquet! You can buy one from him and give it to any NPC you have eight hearts with to ask them to be your partner.

When you gift the Bouquet to Penny, she'll happily accept! At that point, you'll unlock the ability to reach ten hearts of friendship with her and her status in the Social menu will change to be your "Girlfriend."

Marrying Penny

Once you reach ten hearts with Penny, you can get married! You'll know because you'll get a letter from Mayor Lewis, conveniently explaining that people in Stardew Valley propose to one another with a special necklace: a Mermaid's Pendant. He doesn't explain how to get it, but that's what we're here for!

You can buy a Mermaid's Pendant from the Old Mariner NPC. He appears on the beach on rainy days. He's found near the tidal pools and you need to repair the beach bridge to get to him. Once you reach him, he'll sell you the Mermaid's Pendant for 5,000g as long as you're at ten hearts with at least one romanceable NPC and have upgraded your house at least once.

The only way to trigger the Old Mariner's appearance during the Winter is to use a rain totem.

Present the Mermaid's Pendant to Penny and she'll gleefully accept your offer. The wedding is set for three days after you propose, unless there happens to be an event in town that day, in which case your wedding is set back a day.

After the ceremony, you and Penny will be transported back to the farm. Penny adds a special new room to the right-hand side of the farmhouse and you unlock the ability to reach 14 hearts of friendship with your new wife.

Marriage Schedule

Your spouse moves into the farmhouse with you after the wedding, of course! Most days they spend on the farm, but all spouses leave a couple of days of the week. When she's on the farm, Penny will be...

  • Watering crops
  • Feeding animals
  • Watering the animal bowl
  • Repairing broken fences
  • Giving you gifts
  • Decorating the house
  • In her unique outside area
  • In her unique indoor room

Penny leaves more often than most spouses because she's tutoring Jas and Vincent. This is her schedule:

Penny's Fourteen Hearts Cutscene

Each of the marriage candidates has a 14-heart event that you can experience after marriage.

To get Penny's, reach 14 hearts with her and then enter the farmhouse anytime between 3 pm and 7 pm on a day when Penny is home.

Maintaining Marriage Or Choosing Divorce

Weekly gifts are not required in marriage, but Penny will still happily accept one a day. All you need to do is continue talking with her to maintain your relationship. Be sure to not pursue other marriage candidates, or Penny will start to feel jealous.

Is marriage with Penny not living up to your expectations? Have no fear; you will be able to divorce Penny. For a low rate of 50,000g, you can file for a divorce at the Mayor's house.

Penny will be a bit hurt by this, and not want to form a friendship with you. If you can't handle this guilt, you will also have the ability to wipe her memory. This can be done at a shrine that unlocks once you help the Wizard out.
