Stardew Valley's multiplayer update has been out on PC and Nintendo Switch for some time now. Luckily, the PS4 will also be getting multiplayer mode with its newest release. However, Xbox One isn’t getting the same treatment.

The game is a well-loved farming simulator where the player is able to make their own character who has just inherited a farm and a large plot of land. It's rated highly on Steam, with overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board and active mod supportPlayers have the option of choosing from several farm maps to find one that better suits their interests and play styles. At the start of the game, the farm is less than appealing, and it’s the player's job to attend to the land’s needs. You can also interact with other town inhabitants, making friends and even getting married.

However, not everything is as easy as it sounds. Try staying out at night or passing out and you’ll be in for a time.

Stardew Valley has teased new features before this - fish ponds with customization options among others. Fans have been waiting for multiplayer since the announcement in July when Barone noted that everything just needed a few more fixes. The news of the rejection was dropped on Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone's Twitter. Apparently, the game failed its certification. Instead of waiting to launch on both consoles at the same time, Baron went forward with PS4. The PlayStation Plus subscription is required for the mode. The mode allows one to three other players to join you in your farm, helping the land or just running around. At this time it’s not clear what exactly is preventing the update reaching Xbox One.

According to the Stardew Valley subreddit, Barone is also looking into a crossplatform multiplayer feature. He did mention that the “technical barriers are very high.” The Xbox setback is one possible event that’s making the process more difficult. Crossplatform isn’t his highest priority in relation to other updates but the possibility is also out there.

The game is currently available on PC, macOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, iOS, and Android.
