Stardew Valley’s highly anticipated multiplayer update finally has a release date: August 1st.

But not for consoles.

You have absolutely no excuse if you don’t already own Stardew Valley. It’s been two years since the game was released on PC, and since then it’s gone to every platform out there except for iOS and Android (but just you wait, we’re sure that’s coming too).

They even released a version for the PlayStation Vita, just to remind the world that the Vita still exists.

And by they, I mean one dude: Eric Barone, better known by his online handle ConcernedApe. He’s become a multi-millionaire thanks to sales of StardewValley, but despite having more than enough opportunity to hang up his hat and let some other people take over he’s remained hard at work, tirelessly squashing bugs and adding new content to his beloved digital baby.

Multiplayer has always been a lofty goal. The game was single-player at launch, but the idea of farming with your closest friends just seems to fit into the mold of Stardew so well it’s hard to imagine the game without multiplayer.

Work began in early 2018. With the help of publisher Chucklefish, and a lot of Mr. Ape’s blood sweat and tears, we finally have a release date: August 1, 2018.

Unfortunately, that’s only for PC, Mac, and Linux. Console players will just have to be a little more patient and accept the “coming soon” platitude at face value.

Stardew’s multiplayer supports up to four players in the same game instance, who will be able to team together to build their own communal farm. According to the lovely release trailer, there’s even going to be minigames available to keep things interesting, including what appeared to be a horse race.

If competition isn’t your bag, then you can always just build up your farm. Or take your friends on a 4-player adventure down the mines. Or some other unknown adventures that ConcernedApe has been cooking up, but refuses to tell anyone about.

There is nothing better than relaxing in bed with a hot cocoa and your laptop playing Stardew Valley. Now’s the best time to pick it up and get in on the fun.
