Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe has continued to deliver a series of free updates to his beloved farming-life sim over the last few years, but it looks plans for future updates are a bit unclear. Eric Barone—the man behind the ConcernedApe moniker—says he’s now focused on his next game, which he may have more news on soon.

Over on Twitch, Barone teamed up with streamer UnsurpassableZ to host Stardew Valley’s first official tournament, where farmers competed in a fishing frenzy for a $40,000 prize pool. Towards the end of the stream, UnsurpassableZ hosted a short Q&A session with Barone, where the two talked about future projects and what else may come to your farm.

When asked about adding more marriage candidates, Barone explained that he’s not against the idea and possibly even keen on it, but it’s not an easy one-click job. “I have to add a lot of dialogue, and at least two more events, and those events take a lot of time. It may seem like it’s not that big of a deal, but they take a huge amount of time,” says Barone.

“I’m not even saying if there’s going to be another Stardew Valley update, I don’t know at this point.” It’s a complicated task, and Barone even sounds like he has a couple of candidates he would like to include, but continued to explain, “right now, I am focused on my next game.”

As for that new game, Barone announced a while back he's working on new projects, one of which is not a farming game but still takes place in Stardew Valley's universe. He hasn't mentioned anything else on the project, but did add during the stream he may finally "announce it fairly soon," and that "no one knows" what it is now He did clarify that it's another pixel art game, sharing Stardew Valley's top-down perspective and that it is similar—just don't assume it's a farming game.

Regardless of what future plans may hold for Stardew Valley, Barone has already shipped plenty of free updates, including the recent split-screen feature for console players. If you're waiting on Barone's next adventure, you can stay busy as Stardew Valley launches on Game Pass this fall.
