Waking up to crows destroying your crops in Stardew Valley can be disheartening. Regardless of if you plan to grow cheap crops, or become a melon and pumpkin tycoon, it's important to have a few scarecrows on your farm.

In addition to adding the scarecrow, you will also have the opportunity to collect eight rarecrows. These unique scarecrows will scare the crows away, and look good doing it. First, let's take a look at how scarecrows work.

What Is A Rarecrow?

Rarecrows are essentially just themed versions of the normal scarecrow. They provide no additional perks, but they make for a nice decoration.

Like normal scarecrows, a rarecrow has a range of eight tiles in each direction. Any crops planted within this area will not get destroyed by crows. This is helpful if you are growing expensive crops and don't want to lose any. Interacting with any rarecrow or scarecrow will display the number of crows that have been scared away; this counter will reset if you move the scarecrow.

There are eight rarecrows in total, so let's take a look at where to find each one.

Rarecrows 7 and 8 can also be purchased from the Night Market once you unlock them. This event runs every year from Winter 15 to 17.

Additionally, you will be able to place hats on rarecrow 3. To do this, simply walk up to the alien with a hat selected in your inventory and interact with them. Doing so will place a hat on their head and you will now have a customized rarecrow.

Collecting of these rarecrows is completely optional. Although there is a reward for having all of them, you do not need to have the rarecrows to achieve 100 percent perfection.

Once you collect all eight rarecrows, you will receive mail from the Z.C. Rarecrow Society with the recipe for a deluxe scarecrow.

The deluxe scarecrow has double the range of rarecrows, covering 16 blocks in each direction. This adds up to an impressive 888 affected tiles.

To craft this scarecrow, you will need the following materials.

  • 50 Wood
  • 1 Iridium Ore
  • 40 Fiber

After you build the deluxe scarecrow, you will have every scarecrow in the game! Don't forget to place them around your farm to prevent crows from destroying your crops.
