In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about refined quartz, including where to get quartz, how to make the bars, and what to do with them. First, let's take a look at where you can find quartz.

Where To Find Quartz

Quartz can be found on the ground within the Mines north of Pelican Town, and in Skull Cavern, which you can find in the desert. This is not a rare material, so after going through a few floors of the Mines, you will probably find a few.

If you don't find any quartz, you may also have a rare chance to find one inside a garbage can. These are silver trash cans that are typically next to a house in Pelican Town. When you walk up to the can and interact, an item will have a chance to pop out; just be sure that no villagers see you digging around in the trash.

Lastly, stone golems have a ten percent chance to drop quartz. Stone golems are an enemy that can be found on floors 30 to 39 of the Mines. They are all black in appearance and oftentimes blend in with the dark cave around them.

Overall, the quickest way to find quartz is by going through the first few floors of the Mines.

Fire Quartz

Refined quartz can also be made with fire quartz; this is a red variation of the mineral. You can find fire quartz from floors 80 to 119 of the Mines.

How To Make Refined Quartz

To make refined quartz, you will need to smelt your quartz with one piece of coal in a furnace.

Furnaces are a piece of equipment that will unlock after you collect at least one piece of copper ore. The recipe will be given to you by Clint the morning after you collect the ore, and requires the following materials.

  • 25 Stone
  • 20 Copper

To use the furnace, approach and interact with it while holding a piece of quartz. If you have at least one coal in your inventory, the quartz will go in the furnace and begin smelting. This will take one and a half in-game hours to complete.

If you place one fire quartz inside the furnace, you will receive three refined quartz bars. This will also take one and a half hours to complete, meaning that smelting fire quartz is more efficient than smelting normal quartz.

Refined Quartz From Recycling

  • Broken Glasses

These are trash items that can be found from fishing or from garbage cans around the valley. The recipe for the recycling machine will unlock once you reach Fishing Level 4 and requires the following materials to craft.

  • 25 Wood
  • 25 Stone
  • 1 Iron Bar

You will also receive a free recycling machine after completing the Field Research Bundle on the Bulletin Board of the Community Center.
