Updated November 12, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: The Fishing Bundle is often considered one of the more difficult ones to complete in Stardew Valley. We've updated this guide with a few more ways to obtain fish, as well as information on whether panning is worth it or not.

Where Is the Glittering Boulder?

The Glittering Boulder can be found directly left of the Mines. The boulder will be blocking off what appears to be the river leading into the mountain lake. You will not be able to interact with this rock.

To remove the Glittering Boulder, you will need to complete the Fish Tank Bundle at the Community Center. This is no easy task, so we are going to take a look at the requirements for each bundle, and the best ways to catch the fish. First, let's go over the River Fish Bundle.

These are fish that can be found in rivers around the valley. You can the river in the Cindersap Forest, as well as in Pelican Town.

To find these fish, you will need to have a crab pot set up along the water's edge. You will unlock the recipe for the crab pot after reaching Fishing Level 3, and it can be crafted with the following materials.

  • 40x Wood
  • 3x Iron Bar

To increase your chances of catching a fish in the crab pot, you can add bait by interacting with the pot.

Specialty Fish Bundle

Other Ways To Obtain Fish

There are a few other ways that you can obtain fish, which are described below.

Traveling Merchant

The Traveling Merchant is a vendor that sells a variety of goods every Friday and Sunday at the top of the Cindersap Forest. Here, you can find her cart, which is pulled by a pig.

The Traveling Merchant is also available during the Night Market, which lasts from Winter 15 to Winter 17.

Every fish needed for the bundles can be found from this vendor, but as her stock is random, there is no guarantee that she is selling a fish that you need.

Trash Can Drops

When interacting with trash cans, there is a chance that an item will fall out. Below, you can see trash cans that provide fish.

These fish can be found in any trashcan.

What Does Removing The Glittering Boulder Do?

The day after you complete these bundles, the Glittering Boulder will be removed. With the boulder now gone, you will gain the ability to pan for ore and minerals. You will receive a Copper Pan from Willy if you visit the Mountain area once the Glittering Boulder is removed.

Here, Willy will teach you about panning. To pan, approach a shimmering spot that appears along the edge of the water. Interact with this spot while holding the pan to start panning.

Below, check out all the items you can find while panning, as well as the chances of finding them.

Around The Valley

Ginger Island

While panning, you will always receive one type of ore (copper, iron, gold, or iridium). The other items will have a chance to appear as well. With better luck, you can increase your chances to find the more valuable items, such as Diamonds and Iridium ore.

Is Panning Worth It?

Overall, the answer is no. There are no items that are unique panning drops, and it can often be hard to find a shimmering spot on the water. In terms of items and profit, panning is not worth the time.

Of course, feel free to pan all you want though! The activity can be fun and relaxing, but it's just not the most profitable. After panning for a bit, you will still build up a little supply of free items without putting in too much effort.

Playing With Remixed Bundles

At the start of a game, you can choose to remix the bundles at the Community Center. This will essentially randomize the bundles that appear, and adds two bundle types into the game.

The Quality Fish and Master Fisher's Bundles appear in a remixed game. If either appear, you will still need to complete the bundle fully to remove the Glittering Boulder.
