Sebastian is in the running for the most popular marriage candidate in Stardew Valley — and it's not hard to see why. The smoking habit might be a bit of a turn-off for some, and he can be a bit of a moody loner, but one of the big draws is his bevy of interesting and relatable hobbies, whether he's playing tabletop RPGs with his friends or working on his motorcycle.

The Best Places To Find Sebastian

In general, the best place to find every NPC is at the Saloon. Here, you can find multiple NPCs during the night. On every Friday of the year, you can find Sebastian playing pool at the Saloon throughout the evening and night.

If you happen to miss him here, you can also wait outside his bedroom door. This may sound a bit creepy, but since Sebastian typically leaves his room later in the day, you can wait outside if you don't have access to his room yet. After you have enough friendship with Sebastian, you can simply enter his room and talk with him.

Gifting to Sebastian

To increase your friendship with Sebastian, you will need to give him a maximum of two gifts a week, as well as talk to him every day. Sebastian has his own tastes and interests; below, you can find all of his gift opinions.

The Best Gifts To Give

With all of these gifts, which ones are the best? If you frequently visit the Mines, you may have a hefty stash of quartz that can be given to Sebastian. This does not cost you any money, making it a great gift option.

The simplest gift to give him is Sashimi. This is a loved gift that only requires one fish to cook in your kitchen. The recipe for Sashimi will be sent by Linus in the mail when you have at least three friendship hearts with him.

Dating Sebastian

Despite the fact that Sebastian spends a lot of time inside, most of his events will be triggered by going to different areas of the map. There are no decisions that impact friendship with Sebastian. This makes his events easier to handle than most, as it's practically impossible to mess them up.

Below, you can find each event and how to trigger it. We will not include details or images that can potentially spoil your relationship.

Event

How To Trigger

Two Hearts

Visit Sebastian's room.

Four Hearts

Go to the Mountains between 11 am and 5 pm.

Six Hearts

Visit Sebastian's room when he is home.

Eight Hearts

Visit the Beach on a rainy day between 12 pm and 11 pm.

Ten Hearts

Visit the Mountains between 8 pm and 12 am.

As soon as you achieve eight hearts, you'll get a special letter in the mail from Pierre. He informs you that he's got a new item in the shop: a Bouquet!

It only costs 200g and you can give it to Sebastian to declare your interest in dating him. He'll happily accept, assuming his friendship level hasn't lowered for some reason, and his title will change from "Single" to "Boyfriend" in the Social tab.

Marrying Sebastian

Once you reach ten hearts of friendship with Sebastian, you get a special note from Mayor Lewis. It informs you about a special tradition in Stardew Valley: people propose by offering up a Mermaid Pendant.

You can purchase the Mermaid Pendant for 5,000g from the Old Mariner, an NPC on the beach. He'll only appear there on rainy days, and he's on the far right side near the tidal pools, so you need to have repaired that bridge with Robin. Even then, he'll only give it to you if you've also upgraded your farmhouse at least once.

It does not naturally rain during the Winter. The only way to trigger the Old Mariner's appearance is to use a rain totem.

Once you offer the Mermaid Pendant to Sebastian, he will accept. At that point, your wedding will be scheduled for three days from the day you proposed. If an event is happening in the Town Square, by chance, on your wedding day, your wedding will just be pushed back a day.

After your beautiful ceremony, you and Sebastian will be returned to the farm. Sebastian's unique room will be added to the right-hand side of the house and his motorcycle will be placed in a special area outside.

Marriage Schedule

Stardew Valley - Sebastian's schedule after marriage

After marriage, Sebastian will move in with you and spend most of his time around the farm. Like other spouses, Sebastian will only have set schedules to follow on Mondays and Fridays. Otherwise, he will do the following tasks.

  • Watering crops
  • Feeding animals
  • Watering the animal bowl
  • Repairing broken fences
  • Giving you gifts
  • Decorating the house
  • In their unique outside area
  • In their unique indoor room

Below, you can find Sebastian's schedule for Mondays and Fridays.

Sebastian's Fourteen Hearts Cutscene

Spouses can reach a maximum heart level of 14, and that activates a unique cutscene for them.

To trigger this event with Sebastian, you'll have to go to the mountain between 6 am and 7 pm on a rainy day. No choices during this cutscene will impact your relationship with Sebastian.

Maintaining Marriage Or Choosing Divorce

To maintain your relationship with Sebastian, be sure to talk with him every day. If you interact with him enough, you will kiss and a heart will appear overhead. Additionally, he will start to become jealous if you socialize and give too many gifts to other single NPCs. Overall, just talk to him and don't pursue other marriage candidates.

If you truly want to leave Sebastian, you can get a divorce. By completing "The Dark Talisman" quest, you will have access to a Shrine that will erase your ex-spouse's memory. If you divorce Sebastian, this will cause him to have no ill feelings toward you.
