Each season in Stardew Valley brings a new variety of crops. Some of the seeds used to grow the crops are easily accessible and cheap, while others can be harder to find. Rather than struggling to gather enough seeds, you could instead use the seed maker.
In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about the seed maker, including what it does and how to get it. First, let's take a look at how to get your hands on your very own seed maker.
How To Get The Seed Maker
The crafting recipe for the seed maker will unlock once you reach Farming Level 9. To craft a seed maker, you will need the following materials.
- 25 Wood
- 1 Gold Bar
- 10 Coal
A seed maker is also the reward for finishing the Dye Bundle at the Bulletin Board within the Community Center. To complete this bundle, you will need the following materials.
- Red Mushroom
- Sea Urchin
- Sunflower
- Duck Feather
- Aquamarine
- Red Cabbage
Unlike other bundles where there are more items than available slots, you will need to donate each of these items. For more information, be sure to check out our guide on completing the Community Center.
What Does The Seed Maker Do?
To use a seed maker, all you need to do is approach and interact with it while holding a crop. Doing so will place the crop inside the maker. After 20 in-game minutes, you will receive seeds of the crop.
Below, you can check out a list of produce that cannot be added to the seed maker.
- Blackberry
- Coconut
- Coffee Beans
- Crocus
- Crystal Fruit
- Fiddlehead Fern
- Fruit Tree Fruit
- Salmonberry
- Sweet Pea
- Tea Leaves
- Wild Plum
-
Foraged Items
-
excluding the following:
- Wild Horseradish
- Spice Berry
- Common Mushroom
- Winter Root
-
excluding the following:
The four foraged items listed above will produce wild seeds for the corresponding season. For example, if you place a common mushroom in the seed maker, it will yield wild fall seeds.
How Many Seeds Do You Get?
There are three possibilities when putting an item in the seed maker, which you can check out below.
Result |
Likelihood |
---|---|
1 to 3 seeds for the crop used |
97.51% |
1 to 4 mixed seeds |
1.99% |
1 to 3 Ancient Seeds |
0.5% |
More often than not, you will receive seeds of the item you put in, however, this is a great way to passively gather Ancient Seeds. Additionally, you can place Ancient Fruit inside the seed maker and have a good chance to get Ancient Seeds in return.
The seed maker is not affected by luck. Instead, the outcome of placing an item in the seed maker is decided by a random number generator. Because of this, there is nothing you can do to boost the number of seeds you get.
That's all there is to know about the seed maker. Don't forget to reach Farming Level 9 so you can make this piece of equipment!
