The shed is a building in Stardew Valley that you can decorate or place machinery into. Sheds can become your home away from home, or your ultimate processing factory; the choice is up to you. If you are looking to maximize the space inside your shed, we've got you covered.

In this guide, we are going to go over how to maximize the space inside your shed and use it as efficiently as possible. This will be for gamers who want to maximize their profits with no wasted space on their farm. First, let's go over how you make your own shed.

Making A Shed

There are two shed sizes available, with the second size being an upgrade to the first. To make the basic shed, you will need the following materials.

  • 15,000g
  • 300x Wood

With these materials, head to Robin in the Carpenter's Shop and purchase the building. You can place it anywhere you want to on your farm, and it will take up a 7x3 space. The inside of the shed is 11x9, which is 99 spaces in total.

The interior wallpaper and flooring can be changed, just like the inside of your farmhouse.

With a normal shed built, you can upgrade it with the following materials.

  • 20,000g
  • 550g
  • 300g

Once again, head to Robin to upgrade the building. When it's complete, you will have a 17x12 interior, which is 204 spaces.

There is no limit to the number of sheds that you can build. Since they have a larger interior than exterior (it's bigger on the inside!), building sheds is a great way to use the area on your farm wisely.

Putting The Most In Your Shed

To maximize the space in your shed, we recommend filling it to the brim with 1x1 machinery and processing items.

Let's look at the large shed as an example. there are 204 spaces here, but you can't fill up all 204. This would make it impossible to walk inside. Instead, you will want to fill as many spaces as possible, which brings us to a total of 137 spaces being taken up. In the image above, you can see a player's shed filled up with kegs. There is still room to walk, but there is also no wasted space.

With a shed filled with 1x1 equipment, you will take up less room on your actual farm. If you were to place all of these kegs on your farm, it would take up 137 spaces. Inside a shed though, they still just occupy the 7x3 space that the shed exterior takes up.

Using Your Shed For Storage

In addition to placing equipment and machinery inside your shed, you can use it for storage. As mentioned above, there are 137 potential spots for you to place things, which means that you can have 137 chests.

Each chest can hold 36 items, which means that if you have a shed filled with chests, you will have 4,932 spots in your chests. This is a lot, but if you have been playing on your farm for a while, you may start to accumulate a lot of items that you don't want to throw away. Since you can have multiple sheds, it's a good idea to have one dedicated to storage.

Overall, the layout of your shed is completely up to you. You can maximize space, or turn the interior into a mini-house. You may even wish to do half-and-half, with decorations on one side and business on the other.
