Table of contents

Most mods for Stardew Valley are fairly normal. They increase the quality of life in your gameplay, add in extra content, allow you to personalize your game, and generally create a great experience for returning players. However, sometimes when you're scrolling through Nexus mods for the next addition to your game, you run across something that makes you stop and think, "Why does this exist?"

Of course, the answer is usually, "Because it's funny, that's why." There are a lot of mods for Stardew Valley, and inevitably, some of them are going to be strange and incomprehensible to any who aren't in on the joke.

10 Lucky Purple Shorts Hat

Stardew Valley, Lucky Purple Shorts as a hat mod, standing next to Luis with the lucky purple shorts on

Sometimes losing his shorts in Marnie's room isn't enough to learn. Sometimes Mayor Luis just needs to be a little more humiliated. More than throwing his shorts into the summer Luau's soup. More than putting them on display in your Grange Display during the Stardew Valley Fair in Fall.

With this mod, you can humiliate Luis to no end by wearing his lucky purple shorts around town, forcing everyone to see them on full display. Of course, Luis probably won't react to seeing your shorts on his head but you can pretend it's just because he doesn't want to see them. Nonetheless, this is one of the strangest clothing mods on the market.

9 Jojomart

Stardew Valley, Morris in the Jojomart Mod as Jotaro Kujo introducting himself to the farmer as the manager of jojamart.
Jojomart, Zwei7

Have you ever felt that Stardew Valley could use some flair? Some dramatics? Some light puns that will not drastically alter your gaming experience but instead enhance it? Then the Jojomart mod is perfect for you.

As an additional bonus, this mod is compatible with Stardew Valley Expanded, so you can interact with Morris in a cosplay of Jotaro Kujo from Part 3 of Jojo's Bizzare Adventures. Unfortunately, he doesn't start to act like Jojo, so there is no new and compelling reason to keep Jojomart around... unless you like Morris in cosplay that much.

8 Horse Cat

Stardew Valley, riding a horse sized cat out of a fenced in chicken coop and past a shed on the farm
Horsecat, Haughington

It is what it says. Make your horse into the largest cat the valley has ever seen. Assert your dominance over every villager by riding your cat into battle! Or just to the beach. Your large Horse Cat will flop down just like the farm cat and take naps while you're away.

Of course, this large cat is slightly more compliant than its tiny, domesticated version. Although this mod doesn't fundamentally change the game, and you can't experience it until later on, the thought of riding a large tabby cat is delightful.

7 Slime Mayo

Stardew Valley, every color of slime mayonnaise, done in the mayonnaise machine and ready to be harvested
Slime Mayonnaise, Litanix

Aside from saying you have one and being able to farm slimes for the combat experience or their slime, there's really not much point in having a Slime Hutch on your farm. With this Slime Mayo mod, however, you can finally put your slimes towards churning out a tidy profit.

Will they make people sick? Probably! Will they taste like slime? Who knows! Maybe they taste like fruit! Regardless, it isn't like you're going to be eating it. As long as it's making you a profit, and you're not being visited by the Stardew Valley equivalent of the FDA, all is well.

6 Crewmate Junimo

Stardew Valley, Junimo Crewmates restoring the craft room in the community center
Junimo Crewmate, miome

Something is a little sussy in the Community Center, and it's up to you to solve it and find the imposter before it's too late. Of course, with the Crewmate Junimo mod, there isn't actually any imposters, aside from Morris, as he constantly pretends that Jojomart belongs in the Valley.

The Crewmate Junimo mod rode off the trend of Among Us memes and has stuck around since then, sticking tiny crewmates in to perform their tasks and help you out. In all honesty, this mod is actually cuter than you might expect.

5 Gardevoir Leah

Stardew Valley, Leah as Gardevoir hosting her art show and welcoming everyone during her eight-heart event scene
Gardevoir Leah, g3n3r41dur4nd41

If you ever felt like there weren't enough Pokemon in Stardew Valley, then this mod is the solution for you. Rather than retexturing the animals or adding Pokemon in, though, this mod makes Leah into a Gardevoir. To remind you, Leah is a romanceable character.

The mod doesn't change this fact. Instead, the only thing that is changed with this mod is Leah's sprite and portrait. For the more wholesome of you, this is just a nice way to have Gardevoir as a neighbor and combine two great things into one.

4 Bald Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley, Bald Marnie telling the player that she could use some cash during an interaction
Head-shaving Alteration Mod, marblestar

The only representation of bald men in Stardew Valley is George, and even then, that tends to be closer to balding representation. This mod lets you shave the head of several characters. By doing so, you can see just how weirdly shape some of their heads are (mainly Sebastian's).

Although this mod is primarily focused on granting a handful of Pelican Town's men clean scalps, you can also turn on the ability to have a shaven head for Marnie. Admittedly, she doesn't look half bad without hair, though George definitively looks the best.

3 Drink Battery Acid

Stardew Valley, player holding the forbidden battery acid juice, ready to drink it and see what effects it will have

Drink Battery Acid mod by ChaoticOrigin.

To preface from the very beginning, you should not drink battery acid. Not in real life and probably not in Stardew. Regardless, if you get the itch and feel compelled, this mod lets you do just that. It might end up killing your character, and then you have to pay an exorbitant fee to Harvey, but you might survive.

If you do happen to survive your dip into the forbidden juice, then your skills are boosted by ten levels, and you get a speed boost. If you don't care to use less dangerous mods like CJB Cheats to boost your speed and your skills, then sure, might as well try it once, right?

2 Vincent Valentine Is Your Dog

Stardew Valley, Vincent Valentine as a dog, being offered to you by Marnie in the first year of Spring

This mod is absolutely baffling for more than a few reasons. Notably, instead of incorporating Final Fantasy 7's Vincent Valentine into the game as an NPC, it replaces your dog with him. Of course, he'll always be on your farm, and you can pat his head on a daily basis, but... this is really one of those mods that makes you question why it exists.

He doesn't do much that your dog wouldn't do, which is a bit unfortunate. Despite being only a minor change to the aesthetics of your gameplay, it's certainly enough to catch you off guard every time you log on for the first time after a few weeks away from the farm.

1 Strawdew Valley

Stardew Valley, Strawdew Valley mod, George Straw complaining to you during Penny's two heart event
Strawdew Valley, chefrude

Let's face it, this mod was absolutely born out of a mistake - either misspelling or misreading the name Stardew Valley. Regardless, someone took Strawdew seriously and gave it life. This mod replaces every NPC with a straw except you and the Wizard. Instead, the Wizard is the only drink, and what a tall glass of water he is.

Despite this clearly being a joke, Strawdew Valley is extremely well done. The portraits are nice and refined, and the NPC sprites rarely bug out. Whether it's for kicks and giggles in your own playthrough or to prank someone else, this is a mod worth checking out.
