UPDATE: Todd Howard opened the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase at E3 2021 to officially confirmed Starfield for Xbox and PC. It's exclusive, and coming our way on November 11, 2022. No gameplay deep dive for now, but you can check out the official trailer below:

Original story follows:

The release date and trailer for Bethesda's Starfield has emerged online ahead of its appearance at Microsoft's Xbox and Bethesda Showcase at E3 2021. The trailer itself appeared on The Washington Post in its entirety, showcasing some alpha gameplay footage alongside a release date of November 11, 2022. That's rather far away, yet matches up with everything we've heard about the RPG's planned launch in recent months.

Xbox and PC are the only named platforms in the trailer, confirming that Microsoft will not be bringing the upcoming RPG to PS4 or PS5. Now under the ownership of Xbox, it is no surprise that Bethesda's biggest game in years will making its only home on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Aside from the setting, Starfield seems to shares a lot in common with the likes of Fallout and Elder Scrolls. You will likely play as a unique character who finds themselves embarking on an epic adventure to outer space and beyond. Your decisions will help shape the narrative and relationships with other characters, while a variety of gameplay styles can be undertaken to ensure no single campaign will be ever be exactly the same.

Starfield isn't taking us into the far-flung future if the trailer is any indication. An astronaut is seen walking through the interior of a spacecraft before placing his firearm on the table and taking a seat in the cockpit. He's on a moon, or a similar lunar surface, with the flight instruments closing in around him as a mech walks by on the planet outside.

The engines are ignited as he bursts off into the sky and the release date of November 11, 2022 comes alive on the dashboard. It looks fantastic, and a huge step above the visual complexity seen in previous Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. Keep in mind, this is a fancy reveal trailer, so the game itself might end up looking different, despite the footage running in the Creation Engine.

Bethesda could be set to feature a deeper look at Starfield during the upcoming showcase this evening, and you can tune in to watch right here.
