Homecoming is taking players back to Trumble Valley but has some key difference to the Trumble Valley seen in the Heartland expansion released back in 2019. For one, Homecoming will be less linear, much more open, and will allow players to move their communities over with them. The map has been fully remastered and also has two brand new territories for players to explore.

The Homecoming expansion was also descirbed as a sequel to the Heartland expansion, wrapping up certain storylines that began in Heartland and the original game. Russel explains that "this isn't the Trumble Valley that players remember" so expect some big changes when you revisit next month. The expansion will also include certain items that can only be found in the Homecoming map including plenty of hats, outfits, and weaponry.

In regards to the community of State of Decay 2, Russel states that one of the reasons Trumble Valley is coming back is due to how much is was requested by its fanbase. After announcing that State of Decay 2 has now reached the 10 million lifetime player milestone, Russell thanked the community and said that Undead Labs is "very grateful" for continued support.

State of Decay 2: Homecoming is a free update for those who already own the game and drops on September 1st for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. For those that don't own the game, you'll be pleased to know that both State of Decay 2 and the Homecoming expansion are available via Xbox Game Pass.

Also announced during Xbox's Gamescom stream was the arrival of Crusader Kings 3 on next-gen consoles, the launch of cloud gaming on Xbox consoles coming later this year, and the news that The Gunk will launch in December.
