Valve has announced that the Steam Game Festival will return next week with 500 playable demos, developer live streams, and more. The company’s fifth game festival will begin at 1PM EST on Wednesday, February 3, and run until 1PM EST on Tuesday, February 6.
The event will feature 500 playable demos, many of which are expected to be available after the festival ends. The titles that have been confirmed include Hazel Sky, Fling to the Finish, Black Book, Almighty: Kill Your Gods, Shady Knight, Genesis Noir, The Riftbreaker, Bloodroots, Aerial: Knights Never Yield, Siege Survival: Gloria Victis, Blunt Force, Children of Silentown, and Narita Boy. The demos are expected to cover all genres and also feature games with imminent releases.
In addition, developer Cogwheel Software and publisher Daedalic Entertainment have announced that a demo of Hidden Deep, which is scheduled to be released on PC this year, will be available for download during the festival. According to Coghweel, “Hidden Deep is a 2D Action & Exploration Sci-Fi thriller which action takes more than mile under the ocean floor.” The game is inspired by classic sci-fi games and films like Aliens, The Thing and Half-Life.
Valve will also showcase developer live-streams and chats, although details have yet to be announced. The first Steam Game Festival was held in December 2019 after The Game Awards. The event featured virtual conferences and showcases. Last year, the Steam Game Festival had a special Summer Edition that was held in lieu of E3 2020, which was set to take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 9 to 11 but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There may be a second installment this summer of the Steam Game Festival if E3 2021, which is currently scheduled to be held in Los Angeles, California, from June 15 to 17, is cancelled. Microsoft has already announced that it will not hold an in-person event at E3 2021. The company announced in April 2020 that they will not hold any in-person events until at least next July.
